Summer Seasonal Affective Disorder
Anybody else out there get this?
I get depressed in the summer and yes, it is a real condition.
Working in a field where there's less structure and fewer colleagues around during the summer probably has something to do with it, but I get hypersensitive, hopeless, loss of appetite, and trouble sleeping during the summer.
It starts kicking in around this time of year.
Just wondering if anyone else can relate.

Hi, Prairierose,
And welcome to SR's MH forum!
I suffer from SAD, but, it's the boring ole wintertime kind! :rof
I was unaware of a summertime SAD until you wrote. I just google'd it and am amazed at the literature! Here's a good piece with some people's experiences that you may find helpful, though. It's from the NY Times.
Seasonal Depression Can Accompany Summer Sun - New York Times
Others will be by and may have some personal ESH, (experience, strength and hope), to share with you.
I look forward to getting to know you as we both go on this journey.
Shalom!

I was never diagnosed, but I definitely think I could have this. I like when the days are shorter and the nights are long; I would definitely start to have feelings of panic when I was younger during the warmer weather but I never understood why. Now that I have children I look forward to the nice weather so we can be outside during the day, but it is so difficult to get them settled down for bed when it is still light out and I dread it.
Huh, I didn't know about this. But I lose a lot of motivation and energy over the summer. I thought it might be heat-related, or something. I'll have to pay more attention this year.
Of course, I just started Lexapro anyway, so the trend may or may not continue.

I see that this post has been here for awhile, but I want to thank you Prairierose for
bringing this topic out where it has given me a new and different path to follow and
hopefully a positive result for my quest to understand and treat my summer insanity.
If you are looking for more information just Google Summer S.A.D. there are blogs, websites, and discussion support groups just on this topic. I hope you keep following
