Talking What do we do for fun?

The dark season is upon us.
And, although it is the holiday season, which will stave off the dark feelings a bit longer, it won't be long.
We know that keeping busy helps keep those blues away.
So, what is it that you do to keep yourself entertained?
What do you do for fun?

I like to cook.
I go to the gym.
I enjoy putzing around the house.
I go to services at the temple and to Torah study.
I meet friends on Friday night for dinner.

It's much more difficult for me in the wintertime. Spring, summer and fall are much easier to fill my time with positive things.

So, what do you do?

Shalom!

So far, i have been going to AA meetings and trying to meet friends, and hopefully meet a girl!

Other than that i'm going to start learning how to play the base guitar....

Also, i'm into computer graphic design, so once i fix my other laptop i'm going to install photoshop and start up on that **** again and get to where the level i was at...

Ever since i got out of jail i have been working out about 3-4 times a week, I am actually gaining muscle for the first time in like 5 years, I'm 20 years old currently.... I need to pick up some new hobbies, anyone have any other things they love to do on thier free time? I got the entire weekend off , just got one more AA meeting left for this week and no treatment classes over the weekend, so i plan on getting out of the house and entertaining myself...

My main problem is i need to make some more sober friends, i only have one right now, and i dropped all my using friends when i stopped using, because all they do is smoke weed all day and i don't want to be around that stuff at thier early in my recovery..

Anyone here from Seattle Washington or around that area? I'm looking for a homegroup to goto!

Thanks,

I like to design and redesign my various web pages. Learning the HTML codes, selecting images, making computer graphics (CGI), and 3D world art and crafts. Being on SSI with plenty of time on my hands its important to stay active with these things. I know how extra depressing it can be to feel uninvolved in some kind of activity.

What else??
Who else has a tip to share during the dark days?

I really enjoy myself most and lose myself in pursuing research in my areas of interest.
One thought of "hmmm...I wonder" can then become a project that mushrooms!
Now that my printer is fixed, no one is safe! LOL

I want to learn to knit.
I decorated the house (Christmas).
I'm going to send out some cards to special loved ones.
I take silly photos of my pets in Christmas hats.
I research online.
I study and read.
I love to cook.
I want to break out my bread machine and make some bread. (I also have the heart to make cookies and bread to give to people -- but I don't know if I'll be able to follow through -- just a thought).
I call loved ones.
I thrift store shop and garage sale.
I play with my hair and makeup then take artsy photos. (this can take a whole night) and I always feel good about myself.
I look into volunteer shelters to help the homeless.
Make a compelation CD of mixed music.
Watch movies (like a whole set of Rocky or the GodFather)
Popcorn with a little sugar on top.
Mint chocolate chip ice cream in a waffle cone!

I make such a mess with my hobbies, so I've put everything away for now. At the moment my favourite thing is to snuggle up in a warm bed with lots of pillows knowing its cold outside, with a good book or a good crossword. Another favourite is to watch a dvd. I love the old 1960's Bewitched series. I'm onto 5 series now and its the last one in my collection. They always cheer me up. I'll be quite sad when I've finished them. I think I'll just have to start watching them again. Although I have got the original Adams Family series' and the full set of Columbo to get through yet. Ah, bliss, so much to look forward to. And maybe then I can resume some hobbies, although I think I'll have to do alot of home decorating and diy before then so that I can be a bit more organised.

ooh - another one - for my birthday we went rollar skating! We had forgotton how much fun it was. And, yes, it's GREAT exercise.

I also want to start fishing to try to relax.

I'm trying to find activities that don't involve alchol (at least where I'm at now) - so like playing pool and bowling I associate with alcohol.

I want to try ice skating again. And then of course I want to go skiing/snowboarding but being a FL. gal -- it costs money to travel to those places.

I read, and read and read some more.............LOL....but even I have to break out my all day in the jammies funk and take a walk with my camera, or experiment with some new food dish, or even coloring makes me happy, I find it fun and totally relaxing.

Playing with my Shih tzu, German shepherd and cats is always fun, I take lots of portraits of them, from dressing them up to just having fancy or themed backgrounds.

But no matter what, READING is fun for me....I have been blesses this paST YEAR to be able to read quite abit.a silver lining to all the poor health and pain I have been in..........I am learning so much and seeing so many issues from angles I never knew existed,

Thanks for this teach. Its nice to stop and think of something GOOD and post about it!
I love to get out on dark cold nights with the telescope! It brings me the most peace I could possibly have. Looking at all the strange things in the sky and realizing my higher power sure is high and powerful!!
In fact, just sitting here thinking of it makes me want to drag it out, LOL!
On Dec. 10th I was out looking at comet holmes. While I was looking around, I notice what I thought was another comet. Turns out that it was a rocket launched in Florida two states away!
Wow.
Any way, here I am thinking, Drag that thing outside! Then, I look at the clock. And, I know that on way too many occations I will drag it out and the next thing I know it's 3am and I have to go to work in 4 hours!
Alas!

May be a bit weird but it helps keep the creative juices flowing.
