Romantic dreamers
Alcoholics are romantic dreamers. They want life to happen to them rather than take th initiative to participate in life. An American proverb reminds us, "Success is a ladder that can not be climbed with your hands in your pockets."
This is very true for me. I wasted so much time when I was actively drinking by sitting around always dreaming about the things I would do and see. But never seeming to find the time, money, motivation, or energy to do them. I just existed.
Now that I am recovering, I find that I am doing the things I only dreamed about while drinking. I am an active participant in my life.
I am grateful that I can live life rather than dream it.
