Post Holiday Crash
I am bipolar. My meds are stable, but it seems this time of year, after all the rush and hustle/bustle of the holidays, my mood plummets. It seems there's nothing to look forward to except darkness (literally), cold and boredom. Does this happen to anyone else even when their meds are OK?
Part II to the question is: Even when meds are OK, why do people with depression, or bipolar people still get some pretty bad mood swings? I really thought this time my meds would help, well, forever. Was I deluding myself?

My guess would be... We all go through ups and downs in life.
I may go from 0-10 or 10-0 at times where you, "without meds", might go 0-15 and 15-0. The meds may help lower the extremes and you may be feeling normal swings of the season at the moment.
Would be a good idea to ask your Dr incase you need an adjustment in your Rx.

Hi CC....
Sorry to hear that u r down....I think most people
feel a sense of let down or depressed this time of
the yr....
esp. moms.....with all the rush during the holidays
and now things r winding down..... Now what to do...
For me i never liked the time after after the holidays...
My favorite time is Fall....the feelings and excitement
before the rush....then thats it...lol
Remember THIS TOO SHALL PASS....
Our bodies go thru all sorts of changes
and thats why getting a reg. check up
is good....you know i should adhed to my
own advice as i hate going to doctors...lol
For me when id whin to my sponsor she
would send me to my BB or suggest a meeting...
and because she enjoyed baking, i got into
that for service work to get out of self.
It sure helped....
Check all ur points...H.A.L.T and R.I D.
And be kind to urself. : )

Good thoughts all.
I agree, the time of the year; the normal swings in life; and the need to take care of ourselves. Physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. When I do that, the extremes are not so severe.
And please remember, if it's not a case of the need for med change or adjustment, then, the difference between a bad day and a good day is about two days. A good friend taught me that!
Prayers for your well being. A check up with the doc may be in order too.
Shalom!

I always feel the peak of depression durring this time of year. For me it seems like changes in schedule and routine affect me in a bad way. And this time of year, theres a lot of that. Also the lack of sunlight seems to bring me down too. In the past years the Doctor had given me a stronger dose of my med just durring theese months. This year i have been hoping to try more exercise, which I think may help, but its been tough getting motivated.
I have had to learn over the years that even when my meds are working, which they are and have been for some time now, that I am going to have bad days and good days. The medications are not to make me feel nothing but to allow me to feel less intensely.
Yep I have bad days and good days. But I finally figured out if I don't have bad days now and then how am I going to know when I am having a good day as I won't have anything to compare the good day to? lol
I think you are feeling the usual 'let down' after a time in life when things were busy and hectic.
I like the suggestion above to ask your Dr about it.

Then you will like this following statement I heard from an AA oldtimer:
"There is no such thing as a "bad day"." Those days should be renamed to "growing days".
Thus you only have good days and growing days. That slight change in wording can make all the difference in the world when it comes to my perspective on internal and external events in my life.
Try it! It works!!
