Using while trying to be treated?

okie I started using to ease my anxiety years ago....then got clean from heroin and all other chemicals 4 months ago....i decided to get back on the anxiety meds cause im a nevous wreck and social unable to perform at all. im taking zoloft prescribed...but am not feeling much of an effect. its only been like 2 weeks though...but my patience is terrible and im buying xanax and colonapin on the streets again and drinking a lot. Do you thinking by using other drugs it will affect the working of my zoloft. i hope not.

The effects of alcohol prevent the antidepressants from being effective. The use of alcohol leads to increased depression and panic symptoms. I know doctors will sometimes use xanax initially with anti-depressants until they have time to work. It can take 6 weeks.

Why don't you go in and talk to your doctor and let him/her know you are still self medicating and follow thier advice. I don't know if you are seeing a psychiatrist, but they can do more than a regular doctor and will work with you with your addiction.

I am not an addict so others may have better advice. I know that anxiety is common when you first seek sobriety, but it also sounds like you had anxiety before you ever used. Work closely with your doctor.

Do you thinking by using other drugs it will affect the working of my zoloft- YES, alcohol is a depressant Zoloft is an antidepressant. They are working against each other.

Also, mixing Klonopin with alcohol is EXTREMELY dangerous. Please be careful.

The topic starter seems to think anti depressants are just on par with alcohol and other drugs used recreationally, tho.

IMO, Yes the zoloft will not work the way it is meant to if there are other things added to the mix. Why not go back to your doc. and explain things to him.
Get what you need the right way and the legal way?

Sometimes it takes a few hit or miss times to get the right meds.

Good Luck
