Dissociative Identitive Disorder

If someone knows about this could you tell me? My therapist and I have been talking about this and I was wondering if I could talk to someone about this.

It used to be called mutiple personality disorder. Though I know very little about it what I do know is basically the mind has protective mechanism. When something is to traumatic to deal with in order to protect you, it develops another personality, someone able to withstand the trauma, these personalities can multiply to protect each other from the different forms of stress/horror/trauma they respectivly have endured. Some have one personality some have many. It depends on the individual and the trauma they've experianced. It's an extreme way the mind protects us, but needless to say a way in which it does.

Hope this helps!

I have a nephew who has it.... they are just now seeing him for who he really is. They called him all sorts of things(retarded, autistic, behavior disorder) but, now his teachers and doctors are finally starting to help him thank God. Say a prayer for him they have had him on a narcotic for almost two years and his doctors have decided to take him off. He is doing really good. He is being withdrawn gradually his dose in cut by over half now. He is the sweetest kid you would ever want to know and doesn't deserve the cr@p that he has put up with....

I have DID. My case is "milder" than most. I have alters (alternative personalities) but am co-conscious. This means that I know what is happening when my alters take over the body. I do not lose time.

This is relatively rare.

Most ppl with DID have no awareness when their alters take over the body. What they have is a blackout....lost time. My s/o has the type where she loses time when her alters take over the body. I talk to them on a relative basis....... we get along

Chy did a marvelous job of explaining things.

I'm going to keep a close watch on this thread so I can answer any questions you might have. Or pm me if you would like.

this is a very interesting thread. i have been struggling with a few things, but am hesitant to go into any detail with my therapist. i dont want to be labeled any more crazy than i already am. however, i do believe that crazy people can still have jobs, families, pets, children, and happy lives (i know that sounded stupid). its just something that has to be dealt with ya know.

this DID has been brought to my attention a few times by f2f people, and once here. there are many things i dont remember, but if i go to sleep its like i am sleeping in another place (ex SO's room) and i have to keep opening my eyes. like i said, there's many things i dont remember and the things i do remember i have made to be "more tolerable" by the way i explain them. i cant quite explain it. like if i explain it one way (minus the "reality") then i feel okay. and a few months ago, i indulged in a lot of "fantasy" which was a comfort, but its not reality and to avoid sounding any crazier im going to shut up.

i frequently see people i remember, say "hi", but when they say "remember when ..." i dont have the slightest clue. its not like i dont want to remember, its that i DONT remember.

will post rest later, have to get back to work.
