Jareds meds

MG,
Tonight Jared was given another childs meds by mistake. Seroquel (which he's been on before and Im not that worried about it, it did nothing for him). But the other one, lithium ,I know makes him extremly psychotic. He was given 300mgs. I will be calling the hospital back in a few minutes. In all the years hes been in and out of this hospital there has never been a mistake like this before. I was not angry because I understand the nature of human error. My roomate was angry and thoughot I should be. Whats the point??. Im more concerned about Jared and the nurse was almost in tears. Tomorrow is the big day with the meeting of all the docs. Jareds EKG is STILL abnormal.
I'm venting right now , but without too much strength. Its like weak venting because I am so weak right now.

Again , thanks for being there, and I hope all is well with you and you dont have any recent bruises. Only you know what its like.

Love and Blessings,
Sidney

Sidney,

Medication errors happen. I think it shows integrity that they told you about it. I'm always afraid I'll make an error. I haven't yet, but it's always possible.

I hope the dose of lithium doesn't cause him problems. What does the abnormal EKG mean? Do they know? Please let me know what you find out tomorrow. I know you don't have a lot of expectations, but maybe they'll come up with something.

You also need to get some rest. I know it's hard to rest when you're worried and have so much stress in your life, but at least try to get out and do something you enjoy. Little distractions can help.

I'll be praying for you tomorrow.

Hugs,
MG

Hi Sidnay, I have been very busy at work so I have not had much time to log on. Being a childrens hospital summer is ouy busy time. Parents want to try and not have the children miss school. I have to tell you working in hospitals for over 20 years mistakes happen. The problems happen when they are not up front with it. Like Morning Glory said, the fact they told you speaks well for the hospital. Good luck with your appointments. Things should slow down later around 10 pm so, I'll post about MacKenzie and my job later. Maybe, it will give your mind a break from the worry. Don W

Hi Sidney, MacKenzie, came to our family about 2 years ago. We had a small dog for about 17 years. We had to put her down. It was really tuff. We decided no more dogs. However, after a few months we missed arriving at hope greeted by a wagging tail. We wanted another small dog. We went to a shelter and they had what the call a Sato Dog. In Porto Rico, they have many stray dogs. They are not treated very well. People try to hit them with cars etc. Many in their search for food will be abused near reatrauraunts and bars. There is a group, with the Animal Planet, that get them off the street. They nurse the ones they can back to health and some make it to the states for adoption. There is a big demand for smaller dogs and not many are turned in anymore. The group is called Save A Sato, in fact they have a web site with many happy ending stories. Mackenzie, was about 2 years old when they found her. About a week later she had puppies. They were brought to the states. The puppies went to Orlando, and she ended up here. My wife said unless we found a dog that was a match, we wouldn't get one. Before we went to the shelter, I took some beef jerky treats left from our other dog. I wiped them all over my neck and arms and face. Then I put little pieces in my shirt pocket. When we found MacKenzie, we asked for her to be brought out to meet us. She was with my wife and landlady and it was OK. The lady at the shelter said she might be afraid of me because much of the abuse is by men. They handed her to me and she went crazy licking my neck, my face etc. The lady at the shelter tried to take her and she wouldn't go. She told my wife that she
had never seen a dog take to someone so fast. We filled out paperwork and took her home. It snowed the day we got her and she had never seen it. She tried to pick up all 4 feet at once. MacKenzie must have thought it was the coldest sand in the world.
I was still drinking at the time and spent many nights on the steet or shelters. There was a bond between us that is hard to explain. She is such a mush that I don't know how she survived. She must have gone to people looking for love and ended up abused. So much love inside. She is blind in one eye because malnutrition as a puppy. So we try not to move things around. She is now the queen of the house. She loves playing with toys and love to snuggle like a cat. She helped me stop drinking. She could smell it and my wife and I would fight. She would hide, maybe relating it to her life on the street. Like I said, there are many happy stories on the site. You might enjoy reading about them. Relax, get a coffee or tea and check it out. Don W

MG, Don, and Gabe,
Thanks for your support. Ive been pretty sick for the past three days. I have and ear and sinus infection. The doc put me on antibiotics for 20 days. I didnt even realize I was getting sick, I just woke up in the middle of the night with an earache and sore throat and knew I was in trouble. I get frustrated when I get ill because I just dont have time for it. I actually missed two days of work, which is just about unheard of for me.
Don, I really enjoyed your story about MacKenzie and how she (?) inproved your life, and your familys too.
Thank you Gabe for responding, you are always supportive, as MG and Don have been too.
Jared has been moved into a room alone.
Blessings to you all,
Sidney

meeting

Well, the meeting had pretty much the outcome I figured it would. There were six doctors there. No one had any new ideas. Jared has been on so many med trials that theres not much left. He seems to suffer from every major side effect there is with each one. None of them worked anyway. So we're back to square one. The clozaril. Despite the cardiac side effects, its the only thing that helps him. They are slowly increasing the dosage but his QTc seems to be dose related and is going up at the same time (not good). The ultimate decision was mine and as you know it was hard to make. His QT is at about 480 if it reaches 500 then we're in trouble. Since its measured in miliseconds 480 is not that far from 500. I just dont know anymore what to do. If he cant take this medication he is destined for misery. It would be a waiting game to try each new medication as it becomes available. What a living nightmare that would be. I feel like Im butting my head against a brick wall. When I look back on all the years weve been going through this its enough to make my head spin.
Thanks for asking,
Hope all is well with you. What ever happened with your son?
Sidney

My son got out of jail and has probation and anger management classes. He also got a hefty fine that he can pay monthly. He lost his job also, but he is pretty good at finding jobs. They will be randomly testing him for alcohol too. That's a good thing. He isn't allowed to drink. I think he'll go to jail if he tests positive. We shall see.

You've done so much for Jared Sidney. He is very lucky to have you even if you can't perform a miracle. I'm praying that he is able to stay on the medication. I keep thinking of that movie I saw with Diana Ross. It was very sad. It was the same situation of a woman having to go off the medication because her white blood count went way to low. It was a real eye opener for me. I've never looked at homeless mentally ill people the same way since I saw that movie. She was perfectly normal on the medication and totally delusional off the medication.

Have they ever mentioned ECT? Does that help at all?

Is Jared too young for that?

Hugs,
MG
