10 months and Feeling Crazy from Anxiety

I'm a recovering alcoholic/benzo addict and have been doing pretty well, but in the last two weeks or so I've really gotten slammed with anxiety/panic attacks, social anxiety, that foggy zoned out feeling, etc. I have a diagnosed anxiety disorder, but obviously going back on Xanax isn't an option. Has anyone else gone through this? What helped? Tell me it gets better!

Been there. What helped? Trusting in a power greater than myself, being open and honest about myself with someone I trust, and making myself more useful to others.

An anxiety disorder is a form of mental illness that working a 12 step program doesnt cure. I sought therapy and a shrink for a medical opinion as it is a medical condition.
I also joined a support group website called Anxietytribe. It helped me get the correct support for that specific issue. I wish you the best.

I believe the point of a 12 step program is to build a relationship with God. God is everything or He is nothing. I've seen countless failed efforts to fix anxiety disorder through psych doctors and perscription medication. It does work for some, but not for myself. I ended up right back where I started. Today by God's grace I've seen SO much progress. The anxiety isn't being tricked or numbed by meds anymore, instead it's being replaced by spiritual principles.

That's crazy. I too just reached 10 months. I was having ups and downs and then last week it hit hard again out of no where. I had to leave work twice and can barely drive. I was fighting meds, but gave in this week. Im on day 5 and so far not feeling good yet but hopefully soon.

Many many people have been through this. Anxiety is bad enough when you can take a xanax and a beer to make it go away.

It's a whole other thing when you can't do either of those things anymore.

But it does get easier. Anxiety sucks...but it can so be beaten...it just takes some practice and will to beat it.
