Don't want to go into details, but I'm in month 5 of recovery from script drugs, alcohol and cigarettes. In month 4 of walking every day. Lost my job due to usage 10.2009 that started my slide to the bottom. I'm at a point now where I need to rejoin the workforce. I'm living on money from a divorce, but that's going to run-out by year end. Also, I'll be 51 saturday. I had a nice office job as a programmer making good money. However, after what I went through, I'm lucky to be alive. I just want to make enough money to get by. My sobriety, health and happiness come first. However, I have NO IDEA what to do for a job. I don't think I want to go back to the programming (too much stress) even if I could find it at my age. I'm leaning towards fast food as a place to start because I think it will be easy enough to start at 10 or 20 hours a week. But even that thought scares the hell out of me. Just wondering what others have done with regards to jobs, re-joining the workplace after sobriety and any other comments/help you care to share. Thank you, Sober me |

Do you live somewhere where it's fairly warm in the summer? If so, try to find something at like Home Depot or Lowes in their garden department. Not only is it pretty relaxing and simple, but you get to work outside which is the best thing you can do if you have to work at a job. If that's not an option for whatever reason, try a local hospital. Not only are there tons of jobs for all skill levels, but working in them is actually a lot of fun! I've done both! |
