Constant Anxiety

I have been suffering from constant anxiety for around 1 3/4 years.

My doctor put me on Effexor - but it hasn't helped.

My constant back pain and subsequent nerve pain in my right leg keeps me up for much of the night, and disrupts my sleeping.

My kids are 15 and 18 and are wonderful, but rather demanding, which adds to my anxiety.

I'm glad I ran across this sub-forum, in the SoberReccovery.com website, folks.

Glad you're here Kelly, and hope you find this forum supportive and informative.

I suffered from run-on anxiety attacks in early sobriety, went for 12 days & nights without sleeping and ended up in a mental hospital. There I was given Paxil but wasn't allowed to stay on it. The first two meds I was prescribed didn't help, in fact I had suicidal ideations, I finally settled in and felt comfortable with EffexorXR but it took a couple months to get accustomed to.

Everyone will react differently to different meds, we need to find what'll work for us. My suggestion is to contact your prescriber and let them know that the Effexor isn't helping, and see if they'll try something else.

I have 12 & 14 year olds, so I know what you mean by demanding Lol. Thankfully, in recovery, I've become the parent that a child deserves to have. I hope you find ways to cope with the anxiety and get a good nights sleep.

Teenagers are a great source of anxiety to me too. My three youngest can drive me wild.

I agree with telling your doctor if your meds are not helping your anxiety. There are lots of meds out there to try. Surely one of them can help you.

(((hugs)))

Welcome to SR, KellySad.

I have a pre-teen going on 18. They can certainly be trying.

I´m sorry about your anxiety. I suffered from it after I got clean and sober, but it has gradually been getting better. I´ve been mostly symptom-free for three years, but I get bouts of anxiety, which only lasts for 2-3 days.

I think you should definately tell your doctor if your meds don´t help.

Have you tried relaxation like yoga or Tai Chi? It really helped me together with the twelve step program and cognitive behavioral therapy.

Keep sharing. Sending you lots of love and light.
