| Great books for panic and anxiety!
As you may know, I recently quit drinking (sobriety date: September 8) after a long-weekend binge interfered with the medication I used to take to control my symptoms. Needless to say, I don't want to be dependent on any one thing (alcohol, meds) to deal with my condition. I'm trying, for the first time in my life, to deal with my condition from a more holistic perspective. With that in mind, I can recommend some books that *may* be helpful to you: The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook, Edmund J. Bourne, PhD Stop Obsessing!, Edna B. Foa, PhD, and Reid Wilson, PhD From Panic to Power, Lucinda Bassett When Panic Attacks, David D. Burns, MD Feeling Good: The New Mood therapy, David D. Burns, MD Brian Lock: Free Yourself from Obsessive-Compulsive Behavior, Jeffrey M. Schwartz, MD Children of the Self-Absorbed, Nina W. Brown, EdD, LPC (This one's a little specialized...I have a narcissistic, RA father...still, some good lessons on assertiveness) Self Matters, Phillip C. McGraw, PhD (I know, I know, it's Dr. Phil, but it is a good book) Peace from Nervous Suffering, Claire Weekes, MD Hope and Help for Your Nerves, Claire Weekes, MD Dr. Weekes also has some excellent audio materials available as well. This is intended to be a resource for fellow SR members with anxiety and panic disorders, and I hope they are helpful. Please feel free to add to the list. Be well!
