dr. app. yesterday

i jsut went to my dr. yesterday that prescribes all my meds, and i was so excited to go, because i was hoping she could give me something for this severe social anxiety. I am on ritalin for add, it just keeps me focused, but i am also on klonopin, which i have been taking toward the evening, when its time to do dinner, baths, all the hectic "mommy" things to do, lol anywho, i asked my dr. for something to help, and i told her that i get panicky and paranoid like in public, and her response? (in very broken english)
"maybe they say you pretty" she said there is not really a medicine to help me, what??? and then my husband asked her if i should take my klonopin and ritalin together, and she said yes, it would be ok, this made absolutly no sense to me, as ritalin is a stimulant, and klonopin is a benzo...but i said ok, i'll try it... so i did yesterday and i felt more depressed and sad and irritable than i have in years. im just frustrated and needed to vent
i was wondering if ya'll think i should maybe switch dr's?

I'm not a doctor so I hesitate to give advice, but in my opinion it's always a good idea to get a second opinion on meds. My experience was having my first two prescribers shove the same SSRI's into me and telling me I needed to give them more time to work. I was miserable. The third person I saw tried something different, it worked much better.

I'm sorry to hear you're having to deal with the frustrations, keep venting if it helps.

I am sorry you were left feeling so frustrated. It definately sounds to me like you could do with a second opinion. As I don't know much about the meds, I can't comment but I do know docs aren't always right!

Sounds like you should try a new doctor. Even if (and that sounds to me like quite a big if) the doctor is right you don't trust her so that's no good for a doctor patient relationship- so change!

so i asked the pharmasist where i pick up my meds, about taking the klonopin and ritalin together, and she said it would be fine, that the klonopin would keep me "steady" throughout the day, instead of going up and down with the ritalin all day...i still dont agree, but maybe im jsut stubborn lol
I am going to ask her about busbar, because i have heard that is a good one for anxiety, what is the diff between busbar and say benzo's? cuz i dont think busbar is a benzo, no??

Like JJB said, I think you should have a trusting relationship with your doctor and no matter what it seems like with this one the trust can't be built. Even if she is correct about taking them at the same time, she did nothing to assuage your concerns and I think it is a good idea to look for another doctor that you feel more comfortable with. Finding a psychiatrist who you trust and who you can build a relationship with makes all the difference in the world.

I'd opt for a new doctor. I am very proactive when it comes to both my physical and mental health.

Buspar is a tricyclic antidepressant used to treat anxiety. It does have a sedating effect.

I can't handle any of the tricyclics, and the sedation. I also steer clear of benzos as I'd be right back to drinking again. They are highly addictive.
