Lithium

So, I just back from yet another "vacation" in the psych Hospital. Remember I wrote OCD coming back, well I was right. I got all of my meds changed and am having every side effect imaginable. My tounge hurts, my throat hurts, I am shaky, nauseas and blah all day long. Most of it is from the lithium I think, anyone ever been on that? Do the side effects go away?

I've never been on lithium but other meds that produce simalar symptom, Stick it out. Try going to the webmd website, you may find what your looking for there. I am sure you'll have other replies tommorrow. Take care.

Hi jfk,
I am on Lithium and my only side effect ever has been dry eyes on 600 milligrams. I am now on 300 per day and it is not so much of a problem (the dry eyes)

I was on lithium a few years back and it made my emotions flat. I was on it for about three months before I just couldnt stand it anymore.

I've been on it for 6years. 900 mg a day. I get a little shakey sometimes. When I first start it was awful. 6 weeks later I was pretty much ok.

I just did a search on the side effects of lithium. Here are the results:

What are the possible side effects of Lithium?
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop taking lithium and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

extreme thirst, urinating more or less than usual
weakness, fever, feeling restless or confused, eye pain and vision problems
restless muscle movements in your eyes, tongue, jaw, or neck
pain, cold feeling, or discoloration in your fingers or toes
feeling light-headed, fainting, slow heart rate
hallucinations, seizure (blackout or convulsions)
fever with muscle stiffness, sweating, fast or uneven heartbeats; or
early signs of lithium toxicity, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, drowsiness, muscle weakness, tremor, lack of coordination, blurred vision, or ringing in your ears
Less serious side effects may include:

mild tremor of the hands
weakness, lack of coordination
mild nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach pain or upset
thinning or drying of the hair; or
itching skin
This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Tell your doctor about any unusual or bothersome side effects.

Thanks for all the replies, I still have some shakiness, I get my levels tested in like a few days.
