| What exactly is a 'panic attack'? I've heard about them and read about them but I'm still not entirely sure. I think I've been having them for years but it seems more like a sudden bout of nausea and the sensation I'm going to faint followed by the panic that would naturally cause. This is what happens: 1. I suddenly become very aware of my body and it's functions such as breathing. 2. A nauseous constricted feeling as if my stomach is where my lung should be and my lungs are in my throat. 3. A difficulty breathing and light headedness. 4. An excited feeling in the area of my heart and weak legs. I'm not actually afraid or anxious when this occurs - it seems to come out of the blue. However, I've noticed it happens more often in situations where I'm surrounded by people and it would be inappropriate to leave or become ill. I use cocaine and Valium on a regular basis. 5mg of Valium seems to head these sensations off and 10mg stops them. |

| These can be symptoms of panick attacks, others are blurred vision, sudden dizziness and confusion, the feeling of having to flee for no reason, chest pains out of nowhere. Heart palpitations or rapid heartbeat for no reason. stomach cramping, and subsequent diarea. Panick attacks are very scary but not life threatening, but can be overcome with therapy, deep breathing, meditation or exercize and if needed stress meds as a last resort. It is imperative you consult your doctor first and a therapist to rule out any other health conditions which may be causing these symptoms. They can help you pinpoint the best course of action to overcome panick attacks if indeed that is what you are experiencing. |
