Meds?

Hi,

I'm new and since I have an anxiety disorder, I thought I might as well check in here.

While I'm always a little anxious -- it used to be much worse when I was younger -- After a night of drinking it is horrific. This is, in part, why I want to quit drinking.

I'm planning on making an appointment with a former therapist. I've been prescribed Zoloft in the past, but having had a few bad reactions to street drugs, I have a fear of taking anything. I'm afraid it will increase my anxiety. I know I'm an idiot -- alcohol, the next day, sends my anxiety through the roof, still I drink.

The last time I drank was thursday and I hope to have a sober weekend and attend a meeting. I don't want to drink anymore. I know though, given depression and anxiety, I'm still gonna feel like crap.

Anyway, I'm hoping that someone will tell me I've little to fear regarding Zoloft. I'd like to give it a try. I don't want to miserable my entire life.

Thanks,

Gomez

I was prescribed Zoloft when I was pregnant ( I had been on Lexapro but it is not approved for pregnancy) It saved me from the horrible post partem depression I had the first time. What I am trying to say is that Zoloft is considered to be a pretty safe antidepressant with minimal side effects.

Gomez...Welcome to SR...

I have been sober since 15 November 2006...

I have OCD, finger picking, anxiety and slight depression. My doctor prescribed Zoloft. On 8 Feb I will have been on 50MG for a month. It has really helped me. My anxiety and depression are almost nonexistant now. I stopped picking about a week after taking it, but I have started again within the last couple days. I'm going to call my Doctor after being on it a month to see if I should increase my dosage...

Zoloft has really improved my feelings greatly. Check with your Doctor to see if it or another med is right for you...

Best of luck to you...

One day at a time.

Steve

That's great. I think I'm gonna give it try. I feel like I have to try something. I know quitting drinking, for me, isn't going to be enough.

Good luck to you, too!

thought I'd added this but apparently only in thought rather than type =)
zoloft & most the first-choice anti-deps prescribed are safe. the ones with more chance of side effects/interactions/etc are usually saved to try later or when there's a combination of stuff going on.

& zoloft does have a very cute bouncy rock =)
