When I quit drinking the night sweats lasted 8-9 months. I think that's unusual, but for me it was true.

HOWEVER, waking up bathed in sweat is a whole heck of a lot better than waking up in a puddle of urine or vomit. At least that's how I saw it. Not fun, but a definite upgrade!

Night sweats isomnia sucks!

Im in the same boat, everytime i stop drinking even for a day i dont even sleep but i still sweat while i lay in bed the weird thing is that its my legs and feet only hot and cold. the main reason i like to drink was to calm my nerves and to be able to sleep threw the night but its getting out of hand so im calling it quits im on day 2 so wish me luck.

Welcome flipper!!! Be sure to have medical supervision within reach for the withdrawl. Mine lasted three days, with a standing heartrate of 160 and multiple seizure episodes. If I hadn't been in the ICU at the time, I would have died.

Welcome to SR Flipper
I think CD's point on seeing a medico is good standard advice - detox can be problematic for some of us

Lots of water before bedtime can help a lot. Also, a doc might give you something for it, it might be withdrawals. Good luck- it WILL pass xx

Yes, yes, yes! Whether drinking or withdrawing. Terrible! I have a fan that I keep on the highest setting right next to my bed. I'll start out with a t-shirt on for sleeping, but generally during the night I'll rip it off because it's sopping wet and end up sleeping in the nude. Then I go through the cold sweats and hot sweats for the rest of the night. Would really like a full night's sleep.

Currently withdrawing - hope it ends soon. Major issue for me.

I had night sweats pretty bad but that never bothered me... I'm a weird case. I spent a lot of time on a canvas cot in SW Asia. Around 112F during the day and 85F at night. Half of my alotted sleep time was during the day. First month was rough but you eventually learn to sleep in a pool of your sweat once you brainwash yourself. Sometimes you would get up and actually be able to pour the sweat off the cot since canvas swells and seals itself.

I had quit for a year and a half and started drinking for 3 months, I just quit again and its been 3 weeks, I dont have night sweats, I am sleeping great. But, when I get up in the morning I sweat pretty bad for a few hours, is this related to not drinking.

Welcome back Myra

It's pretty hard for any of us to say yes or no, because we're not Drs.
I've never had morning sweats myself tho.

if it's worrying you why not see a Dr?

After beer bending for a week, maybe 20-24/day I had to stop. I lost about 10 lbs because I didnt eat for days at a time. This is of course after 10 yrs of on again off again binge drinking. Anyways, last night and the night before I sweat and sweat so hard at night that halfway through toe night imust leave the bed for its too wet and uncomfortable to try and rest. Resting is difficult even in a dry bed as I've been having very dissociative and hallucinative dreams. I'm not sure if I've even slept. My arms have gone numb and immobile, likely from laying on them and not feeling the loss of feeling.

Scary ****. I hate it. I don't ever want to binge again becuase the detox/wd is annoying/gross and exhausting.

Havent had a drink in about 48hrs and i feel better all the time. I have been drinking liters of water and don't pee very much so I'm certain the alcohol has dehydrated me. And my legs are very sore and were cramping last night. I understand this is just electrolyte deficiency and dehydration and will improve as i eat and drink more water.

Along with the sweats, crazy dreams, nausea, etc...I would get a

zap or electrical charge in the back of my head. It was very brief.....less than a second. Everything would go dark and that zap sound/feeling would take place. It is difficult to describe....would this be a mild stroke?

I am currently withdrawling as well, I wish I could go to get medical help but I have no insurance. I am very antsy and shakey, I too have the problem where as soon as i start to fall asleep something jolts me up and it feels like an electric shock, this is terrible becuase I need to get some sleep. Im still on day one though so I think I can feel things getting easier, but man this is hell.

Hang in there, joeclayvowell. You'll feel tons better in a few days. I'm on day four after a bit of a bender, and while I still sweat and froze a ton last night and shook for just a bit this morning, I'm feeling pretty good. So will you.

Many parts of the country have free or low cost clinics joeclayvowell - you can also go to the ER if you feel at all concerned about your health

It was reassuring to find this forum. After quitting a year of drinking where I built up to way too much, it took 3-4 days for the random sweating and hot/cold to stop (day 6 now). This forum helped, because I knew what was happening and could see an end in sight.
