| I woke up sober today!!!
It has been a full week for me, and I am starting to feel pretty good. My body feels lighter, but that may be in my head. I need to get on a better sleeping pattern, and I hope that will come. Last night I had to go to a dinner party, and everyone there knows me as a drinker. When we got there and I said I did not want to drink, I got some very strange looks and some glib remarks. One person actually looked at my wife like she was "to blame" for this. I said "don't look at her look at me I'm the one who had decided I don't want to drink" and it was left at that. It is so annoying though. People seem to get all up in arms when you want to do something good for yourself. I don't care, I feel great!!! |

Hi Beacon Waking up rather than coming around is fantastic. I loved the early mornings when I got sober, and still do - thanks for the reminder. Quote:
It just gets better and better Beacon. ![]() much love JC

Beacon! This is so true! I was a veggie for many years, and over EVERY dinner with non-family you could guarantee that somebody would demand that you defend your vegetarianism as if you were trying to convert everybody else. "Why do we have teeth then? If we weren't supposed to eat meat we'd have mowers for mouths etc..." Same with drinking. People see it as an attack on their way of life, regardless of the fact that I couldn't give a monkey's if somebody else drinks or eats meat. People are mostly stupid. |

Hey Beacon Well done, you! That was a real achievement getting through the dinner party! There's a great quote that goes : Now I can wake up and say good morning God - in the past I used to wake up and say Good God! It's morning! There's just nothing better than waking up - vs the horror of 'coming to' as Jaysee puts it! Good for you, Beacon! Cathy31 x |

Nice Beacon! But social pressure, eh? Don't give it any more thought - it's just their conditioning and insecurites. After all, if too many people gave up intoxicants, then where would they be if they didn't have them..? Faced with their own inner landscape, and most don't seem to like that idea at all. It makes me happy to hear that you're happy. As the old Indian said; "You make my arse sore like a bear's". Ah, noooo - that was when I was sloshed. It was; "You make my heart soar like a bird's".

God how I used to be the anti-morning person from hell. I would do anything to get out of having to be up early. 14 years in the service and I still could not deal with mornings. Now that I am clean and sober ten months, I have the most wonderful meditations and chats with my HP about what he has in store for me today, I have the chance to play with and enjoy my pets, everything is a totally different experience. These days are the days that I could have been having rather than expending all of my energy being such a SOB. This is one of the top things on my Gratitude list that I remind God how much I appreciate his loving touch each and every morning, for without God and our program of Suggested Steps where would we all be.....right back in the jug. Thank him for today and the chance to be useful to another suffering addict or alcoholic. God Bless, Gordon |
