can I just say -- whew Just got throught a 3-day stressful experience of people visiting. Nothing wrong persay with the people, enjoy their company most of the time, although, sometimes, not. I just find that no matter how much I like people, as I spend time with them my batteries run down. I read somwhere that some people's batteries are charged by social interaction, and others, just the opposite (like me). Being sober hasn't changed that, for now anyway. Anyway, this is a victory of sorts because people visiting has typically been the closest I've come to hiding a bottle of vodka in my bedroom. In fact, I may have done that once or twice. Always snuck drinks later in the evening regardless. But this time, I sailed on through sober. I have to say, the whole experience was better sober than the way I used to do it. No more hangovers and having to make excuses... "I just don't feel well for some reason. Whatever could it be...?"

What's the old saying? Guests are like fish... Congratulations on maneuvering through a stressful period without drinking. Learning to cope with stress and planning for drinking triggers is really important. Thanks for posting, Don S

TenK, Well done on surviving your guests. I used to think that I could never cope with stresses and strains without the help of alcohol. In actual fact I have found that it is easier for me to deal with these situations sober. I hope you are OK. If you don't feel better soon seek advice. Best Wishes Michael

I remember feeling uncomfortable around guests. Worse when I had to spend the night with guests and they would hear me rattling around for my 3am slug! I'm still not all that comfortable with guests but it is easier to deal with the situations sober.
