IME the meetings aren't the best guide on what AA is about, they are just a random gathering of people, some of whom are alcoholics trying to recover.
I suggest you find and experienced recovered member to talk to who can answer your questions. Also, I would imagine, you will have a reasonable knowledge of the big book through your Alanon involvement. Perhaps take a closer look at the first few chapters and see if they make sense to you.
The other thing that helped me as far as meetings go was to look for similarities, not in what we did ( Everyone has a different story) but in how we drank and how we felt. That helped me a lot to find my way.

Hi.
For a lot of years I’ve gone to many thousand of AA meetings and became very active in them for some years. This got me and kept me sober by concentrating on the teaching of the program.
For several reasons over the years I’ve attended a few hundred Al Anon meetings and felt very comfortable. I particularly liked talking about personal recovery and the change of pace.
I lovingly call some, which I became friendly with, my black belt support people because they tell it the way it is like it or not.
BE WELL

Oh I heard someone spout off "I am a Tri-Addict"
Sad part of it was, he came in on a rehab bus. Too bad the councellors dont set them straight. Oh well, go write out your step one, which for them is a life story. Whatever!
