Went to a wake yesterday..

The man was a member of AA I knew for the past 1.5 years and who had been in and out of the program. The circumstances surrounding his death (suicide or fell off a balcony) aren`t clear but it doesn`t matter. He`s dead.

At the wake were people that knew him during his life including his sister. A slide show was presented and it was apparent the man had lived a full life and experienced much success. (He was pushing 70)

However, the man I saw in the slideshow was nothing like the person I knew. The person I knew was someone on their last legs. An alcoholic whose third wife had left him, who was broke and mooching off a woman for a roof over his head.

Weird. The only thing I could identify with was the fact he was a friendly man.

The slide show photos stopped around 2011 shortly after his third marriage.

Guess not too many happy times after that.

It's sad what addiction can do us, Ken, it doesn't care who it drags down.

Sorry for the loss of your friend.

Sorry to hear about your friend in AA, Ken. It is truly horrifying what alcohol can do to a man - body, mind, spirit and soul.

Ken - I'm sorry for your loss

I'm sorry that the man you knew wasn't the man who was portrayed, but that's often what a life of addiction leads to, if recovery isn't found.

Hugs and prayers

Amy
