The potential metrics collected from websites is wayyyyyy beyond what members post in these simple polls.

Ip addresses, ( home address) usage data, email address , tracking cookies etc is much more of concern!

I understand that some people do not wish to give out information like gender and why that's so.

Member polls are not compulsory

The data collected is completely subjective...I can't see where it would have any value beyond curiousity - but if anyone was using this or other poll data for any reason that would be against the terms of their membership.

just for the record, I don't believe the OP is doing that.

Just for the record - I don't know anyone's home address...never have, and have no wish to

For all practical purposes, this is a safe and anonymous site.
I would not be here if it was not

Gender is what your mind says you are,'sex is what your body actually is. Just thought I would throw that out there.

Thanks Dee.

I find much of the value of polls like this in the thinking that goes into the various answers, not just the results. I also believe, as I've been told by many wiser than myself, the only stupid questions are the ones that go unasked.

Yeah, yeah, we know Dee. It wasn't too long ago that you narrowed it down from a section of an ocean to a continent, as I recall.

The active alcoholic me always felt a need to be funny, creative, witty, charming...etc.

The recovering alkie in me saw the question, rule 62 took over, and I thought...male.

Is that progress?

Hum, there is something to that, trach. Thanks.

I do like the fact that I can at least think about humility and not being the center of attention though. Thoughts that rarely, if ever entered my mind in active addiction.

I'm okay with progress - not perfection.

Me, too.

My inability to control alcohol has been the most humbling experience of my life. Brings me to my knees sometimes.

Haha, we are on a slightly different page, trach. I'm wasn't talking about the being humbled by other people, places or things humility. I am searching to replace some of this alkie ego I've had by placing humility first.

Here is a recent example. We were discussing humility at a mtg last week and one of my favorite takeaways was someone saying how humbled he felt by just the ability to attend that meeting. Just being there among all of us recovering drunks was humbeling to him.

Heck, 17 months of meetings in, I was already taking the fact that they exist for granted. It's Tuesday at 7 pm and here is a meeting...what else is new? Every mtg I've attended since he said that I now think to myself...Wow, what a gift this mtg is to be thankful for...I'm lovin that type of humility! So different from the bring me to my knees type.

I know what you mean.

Alcohol itself did away with any ego I had. First it made me ten feet tall and bulletproof. Then it crushed me under it's thumb and kept me there.
