I thought that too - but I reasoned that not being happy and sober was still better than not being happy and drunk.

Happily, I found happiness and joy again.
No reason why you won't too, Ms CB

I found that even if I hang on to unhappiness as hard as I can .... I can't sustain that state forever. Happy moments will come and my job is not to ignore those little moments.

Sometimes it feels like forever, but that is really an illusion. When I notice just a touch of a good feeling, I begin to open up and see it is more often than I think. Of course feeling bad will happen too. I just need to remember that none of the feelings is forever.

In my experience, the act of abstaining from drinking was never responsible for "making me happy". But it did provide the clarity and insight needed for me to come to terms with all of the shite that I'd been clinging to over the years that was dragging me down like a 2-ton millstone.

I would caution you against believing that sobriety is the end game here. It wasn't until I started looking at sobriety as the beginning of my journey that I truly believed that I'd begun to heal emotionally.

I agree with this...quitting drinking was just the start of my recovery journey.

Too late...you've already had lots of happy moments that you've shared with us here on SR MCB ;-) You may have other issues in your life besides addiction to address too, have you ever spoken to a mental heath professional about that by chance?

No Mr. Scott. If I ever let out what is in my head ...it would lead to pure insanity! Not a seek professional help type. I like to roll around ...revert to the fetal position...and wonder. WHY!!!!!!!!
