| How long until my body is normal again?
For the past year I've been drinking 10-18 beers or so a day. It's not fun anymore. It's to the point where it's boring. I started drinking for anxiety, but long term use has just made my anxiety alot worse. I've gone about 11 hours now, and have no plans to drink. My body just feels bad. Getting hot and sweaty then cold and feel like I'm going to throw up. Drinking lots of water and eating. How long until it's completely out of my system and I can feel "normal" again? |

MHS...if you are going cold turkey from 10-18 beers a day, it's probably best to consult a doctor for advice. A lot of folks check themselves into rehab to do that. That said, withdrawal is different for everyone. That's why medical advice is important. Good luck, and congrats on your decision!

10-18 beers a day, is 10-18 drinks a day. that is a lot to de-tox at home. there is no way to get around feeling craptastic. shaky, pukey, and expect diarrhea. sweaty, insomnia. be prepared that you really might need a trip to the ER or call your primary and be HONEST about what you've been drinking and how long you have been without booze. it can be variable about the booze leaving your system depending on your body weight, age and the GOOD news is that you have not been drinking heavy for 20 years. one year is bad enough. please don't risk yourself. a seizure is a serious possibility and can be avoided.

welcome again MustardHandSoap ![]() Like others have said, it varies from individual to individual I think - there are too many variable to consider. I used to drink at least that much a day and it would take me the best part of a week to feel 'OK' again, if that's any guide? I recommend you see a Dr as well - detox can sometime be problematic for some of us You're among friends here - you'll find a lot of support ![]() D

Eveytime I detoxed after my runs with 18 or so beers a day, it was day 2 that kicked my butt. I ended up in an ambulance and coded 3 times during the 6 mile ride to the hospital. Needless to say, I needed medical intervention. They basically pumped me with fluids for 3 days. Once when I was headed for rehab the doc let my detox at home only because my sister came to help and she is an RN. I detoxed on Ativan. I just slept for 4 days but felt pretty bad and my blood pressure was dangerously high. I think you should at least tell your doctor what is happening and ask him what to do. The hallucinations, DT s and seizures were defenitely not fun and are life threatening. After the initial withdraws though, it is great. it is amazing to start feeling good again. |

Be aware that once you start to feel "normal" your addiction/alcoholism will tell you "just one" (which means 18 again) will feel good. This disease progresses when we don't drink. Be vigilant. You can stay stopped!
