Hi, my name's Paul. I'm an alcoholic. It's been 6 months since my last... post :-) (and 19 months since my last drink) And so yes, I FINALLY went to my first meeting. How refreshing the honesty! It was just as I imagined it would be: broken people admitting it and sharing excerpts from their journeys back to wholeness! As a practicing Christian, how sad I am that Christians can't meet together with this same humility, brokenness and support! (instead, we are supposed to have it all together! ..what a joke and a lie. :-( Well, I don't recognize most names here (A couple like Sugah). Thankfully Carol is still here :-) Best wishes to all. This site was so helpful to me during my first 6 months. Paul |

I would not say they are better than AA but you do get to talk about the Bible and J.C. The bad news is they don't want to here any mention of the Big Book or Bill W.

I'm glad you got something from your first meeting. Thanks for sharing that. And yes, I've been in some meetings when something 'busted loose' for someone and the meeting took on this whole surreal .... real-ness. Those are the times, for me that I know without doubt and without need to prove that Something Greater Than Myself not only exists ... but on occasion goes to a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous. Welcome to the Fellowship!

Hey Paul! I remember you from the boards (I am infrequent as well)... Congrats on your first meeting! God laid out a great path for me as well... first He used AA to help me find Him (even though I was the one who was lost!)... then I found a relationship with Christ. Pretty amazing. I am a huge believer (pun intended) that I, as an alcoholic, need the 12 steps and program of AA to keep my sobriety.... I heard someone say 'you go to church to be saved, you go to AA to be sober.' True true. God bless and keep coming back! NMB
