| Member | Drunk once or twice a week
Hi, i cant maintain a period of sobriety. I finally went to a support group and got a sponsor yet I still drink/get drunk 1-2 times a week (beer only). Part of me still wants to drink.... "sometimes" even tho i have zero denial as far as my being an alcoholic goes. Has anyone else run into this?? Quitting... but for a week.... no longer. Not calling sponsor (or other friends who are are of the problem)... that says I dont REALLY want to quit, doesnt it? THanks, O |

Yeah, I would agree with that last statement. Or you could say you still want to drink more than you want to stop.

When I was a practicing alcoholic completely out of denial I wanted to get drunk all week and go to meetings once or twice a week... ?? It sounds like you are struggling with the second half of the first step, is your life unmanageable? Best of luck...

When you're ready to quit, you'll know it. I'd say at this point you don't want to, or rather can't quit. But don't give up on the meetings. If you bring the body, the mind will eventually follow.

| I agree. I'm also going to piggyback Joedris about keeping up the meetings. I went to meetings that I drank immediately after wards about 4 years ago. I returned to AA because those seeds were planted in me, and because I knew I was done. This time I took it seriously. Now I'm almost 5 months sober and my life has improved more than I could have imagined. Good luck to you.

Welcome back to SR... ![]() I looked at your earlier post and wondered if you are still trying to taper off beer as you were in Oct. 07? I also noticed on this post you said "I went to a support group and got a sponsor." What support group and are you actively working whatever program you went to? I am confused as to your intentions.....
