Hi, I recently have cut back a LOT with my drinking. I tried to go cold turkey but it hasn't worked yet. I made a goal for now not to drink during the work week. Friday night I had about half a bottle of red, and then Saturday night I had a really bad drinking binge. I went and hung out with my brother who is still in college - so you know THAT was not going anywhere good. I drank about a bottle of red wine, and a LOT of Crown Royal. Sunday I was bedridden but couldn't really sleep and I did not drink that night. Night 1 with no alcohol. Monday night I did not drink. Night 2 with no alcohol. However, Monday night I experienced INSANE night sweats around 2AM. I wouldn't even call it night sweats, I would call the night SOAKS. I had to change out of my pajamas and change the bedsheets it was so bad. It was like someone dumped a bucket of water on me AND my bed. Is it normal for it to be this bad, or am I suffering from some other illness and should see a doctor? I guess I'd just like to know why this happens...and if it's a normal occurrence. |

It's normal... and you're past the worst of it. Every time I've quit drinking I've experienced this. Withdrawals seem to "peak" a couple days in. Don't drink now! Your central nervous system has been chronically depressed by alcohol, and now that you're not drinking it's going a little haywire. Check out Wikipedia's entry. |

Probably wouldn't hurt to see a doc, just to make sure everything's ok in that body of yours.. just be sure to be totally honest about what you've been doin to it! I didn't experience night sweats (or soaks), but we're all built so different I hope you feel better soon. and yeah.. don't drink anymore!

Yeah, I had them bad the first couple nights. Wake up soaked but freezing cold. Learned a keep A/C off so as to minimize that. But yes, for me they sucked hard. But they went away after a few days. I still get a little bit here and there, but nothing that I can't handle. I was always curious what was the physical reason for them? I know the evils of the toxins and all, but I wondered if the body was used to having to super hydrate itself to combat the dehydration of alcohol and thus once alcohol was removed, it took a few days for the body to readjust. All, whatever... |

Sure It could be withdrawal and it could also be several other things That is why seeing your doctor is wise. Please do so and be totally honest so the correct blood panel screening can be done. I had night sweats in withdrawal...menopause and diabetes. I'm certain if you Google there are many reasons for night sweats. Stay safe and see your doctor....

I had night soaks as well. I would sweat out the top of my head so much that I slept with a knit cap on and kept several next to the bed to change them out. I sweated through pillows. It went away after a week or so. I had them every now and again for about 6 weeks.

I still get nightsweats (well just general sweats) from a different medical condition. I sleep on towels in just boxers. Get up, change towels, go right back to sleep. More laundry but it's easy to do. When I was going through detox and rehab 2 years ago inpatient I sweated so much I was literally WET the entire time...The nurses told me it was a very typical symptom, it should pass. Stick with it!! |

Good luck with trying to moderate your drinking. i hope that you will seek the professional expertise from a qualified medical provider.
