Well, last night, despite warnings, it happened to me. I thought the bartender knew me well enough for me to order a "virgin rum and diet"... and just a sip told me that he is lacking in the sense of humor dept!!! I quickly pushed it towards hubby and said that I had really wanted a diet... was just trying to be funny and all... anyway, joke's on me but I am fine. Although the taste was grand, I didn't miss it or obsess about it all night. CarolD had made mention of always smelling my drinks- - and that even crossed my mind before I sipped- but I thought, "oh for sure, it's the same thing I've been ordering for months"... WRONG. I won't make that mistake again! |

Well done sunrise! Once I worked on the root causes of my alcoholism, someone tricking me into taking a sip did not trigger my cravings. It was only if my mind decided I was "ok to drink" that I truly relapsed. So, your response is powerful - and you should be thrilled with how you responded - a true sign of someone who is doing great in recovery. But yes, I too do a double check every time the bartender gives me a drink. They sometimes get busy and just forget. I can learn a lot from you. Thanks!

Like you .... I did work around alcohol for awhile in early sobriety. That's how I knew to pass along "Smell before you sip" .... ![]() No ... you need not re start your sobriety date. Yes ... I'm glad you shared on your continuing progress. Let's both enjoy another day of winning over alcohol

| LOL good point! That definitely would have caused some confusion to me in my bartending days! I think however that the OP meant it as a joke or something... might not wanna do that one again. Sorry if I'm wrong on assuming that!

I've been playing at this particular place for months and months... several months ago my bar bill dropped to zero when I started only ordering diets. I thought it would be funny- - a virgin rum and diet being just a diet. Ah well, maybe not so funny. In the end, it was no big deal; it was the tiniest of sips and I know my sobriety date is intact. I wasn't obsessed for the rest of the night, and all was ok. |
