Early sobriety and new life
Early sobriety and new life
Every thing has its price.
The entry to a new life for an alcoholic has its price. The payoff however needs patience and a gentle compassionate attitude towards self.
Sweats tremors insomnia racing heart exhaustion brain fog etc are the price of entry in early recovery.
The insanity of the illness is that the poison ie alcohol relieves all this symptoms..only to result in more cravings for liqour and if not careful and abstinent can trigger another bender.
Thank god for sobriety
Peace

Well said vandermast. And very true. I think there is a certain logic to alcoholism. The one thing that really baffles alcoholics is seeing thru the mirage the disease constantly throws at you. It tricks you into thinking that staying inebriated is the right thing to do. It will take you to the grave on this one premise. I remember my first 6 months well. There were times I had to stop and think things through. I had to use simple and pure logic. Alcoholism is fatal insidious disease. It wants to kill me. Do I drink today or continue on with sobriety? I keep choosing not to drink. And its better this way. There is absolutely nothing better about drinking as apposed to not drinking. It gets easier each day. Im coming up on 3 years and there are plenty of days I forgot im an alcoholic. The cravings have all but disappeared.

The biggest price I paid in early sobriety was anxiety. I live a stressful life and always have had and still do have feelings of anxiety that are triggered by events and circumstances that are logically and reasonably going to produce anxiety in anyone. I used to reach for the instant cure. Alcohol. Nothing will get rid of that awful feeling of anxiety faster.
Of course most people know that drinking makes anxiety worse in the long run. I've experience that many times. Day one and the first week or so after a relapse is always the worst anxiety.
I've been sober for a good while now and my anxiety is manageable. I never want another day one!!
