| Rain in my Heart
Has anyone seen this doc? It aired on BBC last month. It follows the lives of four chronic alcoholics at the end stage of their desease. I swear it will scare the alcohol out of you. It sickened me.

I haven't either, just thankful that I found AA before I became one of the stars in it.

No, I have not seen the show. I just don't have the guts to see it on TV. I have watched friends die from our disease. It has been such an un necessary waste and an ugly slow painful death.

Worthy of a BUMP! Watch it, see the bottom of the pitcher plant and live to tell about it. There is now a follow up. Sadly only one still lives. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NP0InrPZpjg And when you stand back in disgust and say "I'm not that bad!" be sure to add yet. This is a progressive condition with two outcomes, abstenance or death. Take care. Andrew

Stick around AA long enough you won't have to watch a documentary. You'll see it with your own eyes. I was told to get a black suit that I was gonna go to a lot of funerals. True to the statement....once or twice a year we bury another one.

I do wish you all would watch it. It is horrific. It is nothing like A&E's inetervention. I did want to point out some things. I did notice that the young man, I will call him yellow for obvious reasons got better very quickly when he quit. Did you notice? He looked younger, healthier and happier in mere days. What does that tell you about the poison that was slowly killing him? The recovery and speed once he abstained was incredible. I call that hope. Hope lives.

I would say Mark is the last survivor. The end of the documentary clearly states that Mark was in recovery and was in a meaningful relationship, whereas Vanda had "moderated" her drinking, but needed a Zimmer frame to walk. Ignoring that information, I still think Mark had more desire to stop drinking, whereas Vanda just seemed to have given up. Someone asked whether it was like Intervention, its really nothing like that at all. Yes both topics are the same, but aside from that, their filmed in completely different ways. Intervention is filmed in a very expose, shocky, american fashion. Rain in my heart simply sits and observes. Nothing is censored, and you see every aspect of their lives. Its a really penetrating documentary. The way they die is truly horrific.
