Holy f*ck! If that doesn't scare a person straight, I don't want to know what would.

Wow, just finished watching "Rain in my Heart", as someone said above, if this film doesn't knock the alcohol out of you nothing will. How sad, whole time watching I was just thinking "But for the grace of God, as I understand him, there go I. Highly recommend, but advise it is difficult to watch the pain and suffering of these 4 alcoholics.

Watched all ten parts last night - wow. I sat there for a while afterwards, unable to do anything really. It really moved me. I remember when I was in high school driver's ed and they made us watch a film about a drinking and driving. At the end it was really corny - you could tell everything was fake and the acting was terrible. Everyone made fun of it. Now we have shows like Intervention and Addicted. I think it's good to show the reality of what people's lives are like. I love that they always show them after treatment as well, which is such a contrast. |

Wow, I can't tell you how much I needed to watch that. I really needed that kick in the butt to motivate me again. And I think that this did it. I implore anyone who hasn't watched this yet to do so. Wow is all I can say again, so powerful.

Couple of things that stuck with me... The 26 year old girl called Toni who died: "Im not an alcoholic" "I dont need to drink everyday" Also when the 43 year old lady got out of hospital after 8 weeks and bought a bottle of vodka and the investigative journalist, who is supposed to be impartial and already told her he wont interfere, tries to stand between her and the kitchen saying that he was surpised etc and she paused for a second and then told him to get out of the way...just goes to show the absolute powerlessness of the non-alcoholic trying to help the alcoholic...amzing to see in film and really quite upsetting to see the absolute resolution she had to drink again after being told she would die by the doctor... The people in the film are alcoholics not heavy drinkers, they dont see it as a choice and will just keep going no matter what the consequences... Also good to see the functional alcoholic BS myth put to bed...the guy that died...his wife said he always worked and bought money into the house etc...only an alcoholic would think up a term like functional alcoholic to avoid the issue... Kudos to the doc too, his job is like keep pissing in the wind and expecting not to blow back in your face but at the end of the day it was clear to see that he was doing his best with the little resources he has... Really worth watching! |

I don't know what to react with, but Sleepie's comment makes me want to. It sounds trite and simplistic, but if it really does come down to a span of time, then we should make the best of them without going back to using. If a person does quit and then the "doom" is there in spite of the change, well, I think the "unfairness" is captured well in the look of that blonde boy's face as he plays the video games. I took a look at a separate piece outside of the compiled 10 parts that shows Vanda (the one who seems to be the focus, because she develops the topic the most, and I don't just mean the facts revealed about her upbringing, but by showing every twitch and shifting mood to the condition, plus the deadened self-knowledge)....She is tucking a big bottle next to her in her wheelchair, then rolling herself away. |

Trying to watch this now but am squirming quite a lot, I'm a very squeamish person at the best of times. On Part 4. It's a brilliant documentary, chilling.

Seeing this has strengthened my resolve not to drink again, made me grateful that despite drinking heavily for over thirty years I am not yet ill, and scared me that I may already have damaged my liver such that these sorts of symptoms might arise in the future. If anyone is contemplating drinking again, he or she should certainly see this film first. I saw all kinds of stuff when I was in treatment, but nothing like this: not close.

I bookmarked the link a while back and sat this morning and watched all 10 parts plus the follow up. I paused in the middle of one of the clips to make coffee, literally snapped the lid of the creamer trying to open it and realized I was really shook up from watching this. Definitely an eye opener to what we as alcoholics do to ourselves and how bleak the outlook is if we don't STOP drinking and take care of ourselves.

I watched this a couple of days ago, wow, it had me in tears, shock, and speechless at the same time. It's horrifying to see what it can do to the person and their loved ones. Chugging and throwing it back up, slow, painful suicide, yet at times we choose to ignore all that and continue drinking. |

Holy hell, that was absolutely unnerving to watch. I just watched all 10, and I am appalled at what alcohol can reduce your life to. Can anyone tell me where to find the follow up? I clicked on a link someone posted, but couldnt get it. I'm really curious to see the end of it.

It's pretty bad. I have been watching it on and off today when I have a few minutes. It's harrowing, gross, and, even worse, real. I just watched first ten parts of it. I never could find a follow up.

I think the follow up is called "Boozenight". Try that.
