| third step prayer
I found this in a tract someone gave me for AA. I wanted to write it out here, because it has really made me feel empowered....through surrender. I don't think I've finished step 3 yet, but I'm laying the ground work for it. Anyway, here's the prayer: ------------------------------------------------- God, I offer myself to thee- to build with me and to do with me as YOU will. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do THY will. Take away my difficulties that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of THY POWER, THY LOVE, and THY WAY of life. May I do THY will always!! c. AA world service INC --------------------------------------------------- Peace be with you, all who WILL be sober with me today. chip |

I think God is trying to tell me something. This prayer keeps appearing before me at every turn the past few days. It's on page 63 of the Big Book (a page number I now have etched into my brain since it's been pointed out to me at least a dozen times this week. |

Toinight I repeated and meditated on it. I like this prayer because it asks God to relieve me from the bondage of self. I need God to take away my difficulties. My foolhardy, headstrong ways hinder me all to often......and I can't beat alchohol myself. I pray that God will relieve me from my addiction for another 24 hours, and I thank God for each sober day. chip |

HeyJen, I'll read (or re-read) that story tonight. Everyone, I just want to share something else here. Today, I had to opportunity to affirm someone who needed it. It made me feel really good, and I could see a "spark" in the eye of the other person. I am thankful to my HR for giving me the opportunity to be a positive influence in someone's life. I pray that God may open my eyes to opportunities to help others, and I pray that God will help me turn my gratitiude into true humility. I wish you all a nice night, chip |

Chip, You are helping more people than you know by sharing your sobriety here. You bring me back to my early days. Help those who have been sober for a long time. Help those sober for a short time. Help those who haven't quit gotten sober yet. You are an example for everyone who sees you. (Not trying to inflate the ego, but...). Keep up the great work, Chip!! Very proud of you. Jen |

Hey Jen, Thanks for the encouragement. I feel good if I'm able to help people. In my line of business, I've often counciled people about drinking problems.....but I always had my own skeleton in my closet. Today, at the meeting I went to, I met someone who knows my accountant. Also, today I told my business partner, and she offered congrats....hummmm wonder if she knew the extent of my problem before I stopped. I read the story "out of bondage" today. I really like the ending, and the suggestion of how to deal with resentments. chip |
