| Asking for a sponsor
Hi, I quit drinking last September and have been going to meetings several times a week. I know I need a sponsor, but am afraid to ask. Has anyone tried a sponsorship over the internet? Thanks! -High Life

Why are you afraid to ask for a sponcer? If you like someone that you think they can help just go and ask i am sure that no one will bite your head off. About a on line sponcer i don't think that would work so well and i never heard of that before.

I've heard of it and read about it, and I feel it could be helpful as short term "tool" until a "in-person" sponser is found. The real time, face to face connection and interaction with a sponser is important, and obviously missing from "online" sponsers.

The one resource I had no longer exists. But look for CarolD around here, she may be able to give you some links to find one online. Though I agree with Doug it should be a "tool" and the benefits from sponsorship comes live face to face. You can do it, I know you can.

I do not have a link for on line sponsorship...Sorry. The site I belonged to years ago was not successful. You have to have eye to eye contact when spomsoring. Or so it seems to me. I suggest you read the AA free pamplet "Questions and Answers On Spomsorship" Then speak up in meetings that you need to start step work. Keep sharing and your sponsor will find you! Congratulations on your sober time!

just go to a meeting and raise you hand, when called on just say "i need a sponsor!" end of story, someone will come up to you. think about the online sponsor thing for a minute............... ok times up! a sponsor is mainly someone to guide you through the steps, and i've found that most times a sponsor is someone you do your 5th step with. do you really want your 5th step plastered on the internet? for this drunk recovery on the internet is just for those few times i can't get to a live meeting, and a cyber sponsor just wouldn't cut it for me. |

I'm not sure how it works in other places but I went to my first open meeting last night and the meeting leader said "Well those who are willing to be sponsors raise your hand?" and a dozen or so people (men and women alike) raised their hand. Then he said "any one needing a sponsor can meet with these folks in the front room after the meeting". Seems like a easy way to start to me. |

Thank you all. I see I have to ask someone. This people fear has always been a problem. There's a meeting at the central office tomorrow at lunch. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for the push. -High Life
