Staying Sober-a #1 priority?

Who here has sobriety as their #1 priority in their life?

why are you prioritizing the one thing an alcoholic can't do?

Each morning I wake up and ask my HP to help me keep my sobriety as my #1 priority for the day. Sometimes I am open to taking that help, sometimes I shut my spirit off and put other things first...when I do that, my sobriety/recovery suffers. I have been blessed to not drink or drug for over 9 years now. Some days are harder than others, but each day I ask God to help, because I believe He can do for me what I cannot do for myself.

If you are telling me that we can't stay sober, than I feel bad for you. And if you don't believe in God, that is okay, all that matters to me is that it works for me.

Alcoholic non-believers, agnostics, atheists, godless anarchists, etc, can all stay sober Ed.
May not be what you want or choose to believe, nevertheless, it's a fact.

is it possible that you can have a deeper experience and relationship with the "HP" that is ALREADY keeping you sober for 9 years?..Is it possible that when you began, your "HP" took care of the obsession to drink for you? Did your "HP" infact remove the obsession to drink from you? If so, what's your current relationship with the "HP" that keeps you sober like?

I don't know, and to me it does not matter. I mean I could sit here and type you a book about my relationship with my HP but I don't need to, that is between Him and me. I am an addict/alkie and I need to keep it simple. What I am doing works for me and that is what matters. If what you are doing works for you that is great.

Why are you guestioning what works for others?

its the old rule that drunks have to argue and get
into fights.
the lover is just as bad. he falls into a hole.
but down in that hole he finds something shining,
worth more than any amount of money or power.

Last night the moon came dropping its clothes in the street. I took it as a sign to start singing,
falling up into the bowl of the sky.
The bowl breaks. Everywhere is falling everywhere.
Nothing else to do.

Here's the new rule: break the wineglass,
and fall towards the glassblower's breath.

My 2 cents

Through Christ ALL things are possible, if you believe and keep the faith.

I had been sober for 3 months back in October of 2004. Once the holidays came I started back with old habits, struggling everyday to overcome my habit. It's really HARD. Now I am a Christian and I have a testimony.....GOD spared my life.

Do I believe that GOD can make a difference, sure but it has to start from me.

I'm going to beat this, and that I do believe.

Hi Ed

What worked for me at one year sober did not necessarily work for me at two.

That is what I believe reviewing 22 years of sobriety.

One of my own personal beliefs about staying sober in the longer term, is having the willingness to change my views when I have been confronted with the painful truth that what I believed last week is not the final solution.

Develop, evolve, change, adapt and sometimes pretty damned quick. Always, however, keeping in mind, during the frailties of life, that everything is dependant upon physical sobriety. If you want to **** around with your life, make stopping drinking your no2 priority.

Todays news is tomorrows fish and chip paper. What you think you know now, you won't even be able to remember in a year from now...if you stay sober. What you think is the most exciting revelation and ultimate answer today, is only the stepping stone to what you are going to learn..if you make stopping drinking your no 1 priority and stay sober.

The truth is Ed, you know what is keeping you sober today, but don't know anything about what is going to keep you sober tomorrow.

Now why did I know that would be a question you already had a derogatory response prepared for despite the answer? If you have honest questions then ask, but don't ask in anticipation of smashing someone elses response Ed, not nice at all, your becoming quite predictable.
