Smile The Promises of AA

The AA Promises

If we are painstaking about this phase of our development, we will be amazed before we are half way through.

We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness.

We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it.

We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace.

No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others.

That feeling of uselessness and self-pity will disappear.

We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows.

Self-seeking will slip away.

Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change.

Fear of people and of economic insecurity will leave us.

We will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us.

We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves.

Are these extravagant promises? We think not.

They are being fulfilled among us - sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly.

They will always materialize if we work for them.

nowhere in any of those 9th step promises does it say that you will be comfortable..try and see if you can co-relate COMFORT to any of those promises..

there is not only 12 promises..there are so many in the book you can flip to any page and find something that will happen..One of the first promises is right on the title page that says "The story of How many Thousands and Men and women have RECOVERED from alcoholism"

infact most alcoholics who drink again after doing the steps 1-9 1/2 only get only "amazed before they are halfway through"..Maybe amazement is all some alcoholics need..Maybe amazement means comfort..How is comfort working out for you? Did you ever drink around ease and comfort? when there wasn't a cloud on the horizon?

"GOD PLEASE SHOW ME IF THESE INFINISHED AMENDS HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH WHETHER OR NOT I WILL DRINK AGAIN..AMEN"

yes ed, i have. i didn't need bad things in my life to drink.

me and a bunch of drunks were discussing the promises the other day, thurs., and happy joyous and free came up. one person asked if anyone ever felt these things? most responded no. then it occurred to me that they were trying to remember feeling them all at the same time.

i shared that i felt those things all the time, but hardly ever at the same time. although i do feel them all together at times! there was an ahhhhhhhhh of curiosity being fulfilled in the air!
