Live and let live

Would someone kindly explani this principle to me? I seem to come across it,in and outside of the rooms. It's one of the main principles in the rooms and the reason I came into AA;openess,willingness etc..

Well,this is my interpretation of "Live and let live" It tells me to keep my own side of the street clean,not to worry about taking other peoples inventory,etc. And again thats just what the slogan has always meant for me.

Yep. Another thing that's been suggested to me is that it's none of my business what other people think of me. If I start worrying about or taking on board what may or may not be, I'm messing with my serenity.

Thanks for answering. So it means a different principle. In my understanding,correct me if I'm off the path;it means,yes, I don't take anyone's inventory unless of course I'm implicated or directly concerened; I do not moralize or allow myself to judge other people's actions(take someone's inventory), unless they are dangerous or violent?

They are so great; these slogans as a way of life.

Hi tigergirl, I havn't seen your name for awhile. Maybe a different board. "Live and Let Live" also means for me, to not concern myself with others. Not that I shouldn't be generally concern but, not in order to remove focus on myself. Or, maybe to compare it, so as to reduce the size of my own problems. Plus, it reminds me that I have no control over others only my own actions. Don W

Just a little question, if one compares doesn't that automatically imply judgement;looking outside instead of inside?Sometimes, I think we really don't know what is going on behind the appearance-This Is why I like the"live and let live". but with compassion and kindness.At least,that is what it means to me.

I think Don W sums it up well.

For me it's a question of living my own life, following the programme and trusting in my HP. This allows others in my life to lead theirs accordingly without my efforts at control or manipulation.

What Dan says is good stuff too. If you are becoming the person you want to be by working the programme, it really doesn't matter a sniff what other's think of you. Theirs is and always will be a subjective you. The programme helps to regain you self esteem and self confidence.

Be happy, be confident, be positive and let others become the same.....if they so desire.
