Excuses, excuses!

I got my butt lovingly kicked by people who care about me at tonight's meeting. My sponsor didn't know that I've been doing what I'm about to describe. She kicked my butt when I got home and told her on the phone.

I used my car's ignition as an excuse to not get to a meeting last Monday. I have access to another car.

I have to actually get in car and drive to a meeting, where I used to get rides, so I haven't gone to a few. No excuse for THIS behaviour.

I used the state of the parking lot to not go to a meeting. It has been fixed.

I've used headaches as an excuse to not go to a meeting. I have been able to watch TV despite the headaches.

Etc etc etc.

This has been going on for a couple of weeks now. Excuses, excuses, excuses.

I lost sight of "going to any lengths". I started to develop the dread disease of complacency again. The last time I did that I took some pills to get high and lost my sobriety date (I'm an addict as well as an alcoholic).

As I said, I got my butt kicked tonight. I thanked the butt kickers for caring

((((Moot)))) That's why we need each other, eh? It's to darn easy to slip and slide in our own (twisted) mental world. A counselor once said to me, when an addict gets stuck in his or her head, get out because it's a baaad neighborhood. lol That sure is true for me! So, good for you for HEARING the loving advice so freely given. And get thee to a meeting. (I will take my own advice, too!)

hugs,

jojo

Excuses, excuses and complacency. That's it...fifty wacks for you. Don't kick yourself to hard. We all need a jump start every now and then. Yep, thank God there is someone to make sure we stay on track. Traveling the other path can be deadly.

((((( Jojo )))))

Yeah..... being in one's own head is being behind enemy lines.

This forum is great for getting me honest when I'm not being honest with myself.

Thankyou LeAnne

I do know not to kick myself too hard cuz kicking oneself too hard leads to the bottle or drug!

The Monday night meeting was getting ready to call in the cavalry on me! If I hadn't shown, I was going to be inundated with phone calls tonight.

Incidentally, why aren't we all asleep? This can't be healthy. My skin's getting all pastey from sitting in front of a computer screen.

I needed to re-read your initial post here. Seems like I've heard lots of grand excuses, excuses and more excuses lately myself.

MootPoint:
Yip, its like a virus or something I think.

Ted? Are those steel-toed boots? Remember, not everyone wears Steelers equipment in here and you really "have to" kiss some folks butts instead of kicking them or they run off and sulk in the half-measures coffee shops instead.

Did I say that out loud? Yip, but at least

Talking about complacency and excuses, we had an "old-timer - 20+ years", who "didn't need meetings anymore", quit going about 6 months ago, resumed drinking and hung himself a few days ago.

Reminder enough?!? For today, yes. Soon to be enroute to meeting #3 today, and I need it.

Love all,
Jen

"Meeting Makers Make it" Thats what they alway tell me. But I know how you feel. I often get very unmotivated. (Especially when its rainy and cold out) Hardest part is leaving the house. So remembering that AA slogan helps me.

I heard a similar story about someone with 20+ who used to be part of my home group. He was in London for Christmas a few years ago and someone offered him a liqour in a fancy department store, which he took. Within weeks he had bottles hidden in his house, car, etc. Ultimately he shot himself.

Scary stuff.

Love ya Mooty. I wish I could do more, I really do, AA has given me a new life along with new responsibilities in sobriety. 16 hour day's 6 days a week is a hard pace to keep up with, and I've neglected family in favor of a meeting lately. Until things slow down, I have to be grateful for my ladies meeting every Sunday. Hitting sporadic meetings at lunch etc keeps me in touch with most of the regs anyway. I'm just not feeling 1-2 a week is enough lately..... or is it just life happening? *hugs*
