| Humility - Step 7
Just got done writing about step 7. Didn't seem to have much to say about it. I feel that with humility comes serenity. Cool, I can always use that!! I guess one of the most humbling things for me, was to realize that I am not better then anybody else. Oh, how sickening to think of myself up on some high horse!! Yikes!! Nothing and Nobody could live up to my expectations. Who was I to set such standards? Well, now atleast I can continue to work on this, every minute of the day, for the rest of my life! hehe BTW, I wouldn't think I was better then other people if they weren't such DUMB A$$ES!! :Lmao See, lots of work to do!! It's progress not perfection baby!! Missy

What is it they say about humility... "As soon as you think you have it, BANG! Out the window it goes! You're right Missy, we do have the rest of our lives to work it out. And when you think about that, isn't it such a huge gift? The rest of our lives... And being present for it all, sober... It works if you work it! Great post Missy. |

Ah yes Missy. It is our responsibility to see through the dumb arses and recognize them for who/what they are. Their behavior is out of our control. BUT... it sure would be helpful if they would work on themselves. Don't you think? Maybe if they would be Dumb Arses on a part time basis only. Just a thought. Sure would make it easier for the rest of us. Your not alone, I need more work as well. |

Very thought provoking Missy I've been looking for ways to make this stick and I like the following quote: A person who embodies humility will make the effort to listen to and accept others. The greater the acceptance of others, the more that person will be held in high esteem, and the more that person will be listened to. One word spoken in humility has the significance of a thousand words. Humility is found in a vast ocean of still waters which run very deep. At the bottom lies self-esteem. At first, going within the ocean is like journeying into an unknown area of immense darkness. But, just as exploration can lead to buried treasures, one searching his or her inner world can find jewels buried in the depths. And the jewel buried deepest - which shines the brightest and gives the most light - is humility. At the darkest moments, its rays penetrate. It removes fear and insecurity and opens up the self to universal truths. Or on a lighter note, a quote on humility from your very own Abraham Lincoln: "Common looking people are the best in the world: that is the reason the Lord makes so many of them." I thank my HP for helping me to find and practice humility. (Not that I'm common looking of course.) Ha ha Rich

| It removes fear and insecurity... That is such a truism. If I'm content with the place I occupy, and confident that I have exactly what I deserve as opposed to what my imperfect personality desires, I'm that much closer to being a humble human being I think. Those are great quotes Rich. |

"Oh Lord, it's hard to be humble, when you're perfect...!" ![]() Anyone remember that song?!? For me, though, I have the opposite problem, I tend to think I am so much worse than everyone else. I am not worthy, I don't deserve love and all that crap. Someone told me that it's arrogant to think I am better than everyone else, but it's also arrogant to think that I am worse than everyone else, too. Hmm. I guess if I really believe people are good (and I do), then I should start putting myself in that category, too. Yup, lots of work to be done. jojo |
