Something really neat my wife did for Thanksgiving this year was bring out a small craft for the whole family to work on before dinner. It was a foam tree which had leaves to be glued to it. On those leaves were to be written the things we were grateful for. We sat around pondering then verbalizing those things. The tree was full of many wonderful gifts. Health, freedom, food, shelter, family, work, right on down to smiles.

The trunk of this tree of gratitude for me is sobriety. All of the leaves are dependent upon it as my base, my roots. Without it, I have nothing. With it, I have everything. It really is that simple.

God, please give me the willingness to maintain a strong root system today. To be firmly planted in your soil. Resulting in a happy, joyous and free life of sobriety.
