Nervous about going back to aa

Last year I was in the programme for about two months, went to all my local groups. However I once again went back on the drink. I've did a lot of soul searching and I know the only place that can help me is aa. I'm nervous bout going back to the groups though after so much time out. Anyone else been in the same boat?

Hi Boxguy,
Is there a particular reason you are nervous about going back to AA?

AA never shoots it's wounded. You will be welcomed back with open arms. There are very very few of us who went to their first AA meeting and never drank again. I screwed around with AA for 15 years before it stuck.

Each time I came back I was welcomed back.

I went back so many times that all of the sponsors within 30 miles of me knew who I was and ran when I got near them.

6 months after getting sober no one seemed to remember that I was a chronic relapser.

Boxguy I had four years and have been relapsing for two and a quarter years. Day 1 for me went out and got a slice of pizza and a pop with my aa buddy today. Always welcomed back with kindness but I admit a lot of people have given up on me cause they would help me a lot and I would let them down. I can't blame em tomorrow I will go to a meeting and be honest about that I only have two days. That I struggle thing is on the way to the liquor store I always choose not to turn around. If I can stay sober to April the 2nd I'm going away for a week and will be able to get some sober time no sway to drink were I'm going.

Don't be nervous drunks don't judge other drunks...they'll be happy your back. Alcoholism is my disease and AA meetings are my medicine, the steps are my cure.

You will be welcomed back like everyone else has been. The real question is, "What will you do differently?" Actions do the talking in AA...

Hi Boxguy, you may he apprehensive now but I think once you get through the meeting you'll wonder why you ever left. Ignore those voices in your head telling you to stay away, the same voices would lead you back to a bar. 😃
