Crystallizing light
"Researchers at Princeton University have begun crystallizing light as part of an effort to answer fundamental questions about the physics of matter.
The researchers are not shining light through crystal – they are transforming light into crystal."
This strikes a cord with me. I guess that's because I have long thought that understanding light will be key to major advances in our understanding of the world we live in. Light holds a very prominent place in both Science and many of the worlds religions. I don't think this is an accident.

'Solid' light could compute previously unsolvable problems
