I earnestly advise every alcoholic to read this book
I earnestly advise every alcoholic to read this book
the following is the last sentence in the THE DOCTOR'S OPINION -- AA Big Book
"I earnestly advise every alcoholic to read this book through, and though perhaps he came to scoff, he may remain to pray."
I have seen this come true for many who came to AA
some even say that they found God there
but -- I do not believe that God was ever lost

It is a good read, written by highly intelli - Gents!
“...one of the primary differences between alcoholics and nonalcoholics is that nonalcoholics change their behavior to meet their goals and alcoholics change their goals to meet their behaviors.”
― Alcoholics Anonymous
that reminds me of me (yes, I did that often during my career)

I heard a gent at a speaker meeting early on say something that has stuck with me and keeps me coming back.
My actions and behaviors were not aligned with my values and beliefs.
Hate(d).....work in process - being THAT guy.

You know a lot of people say they raise their kids the 12 steps. I think anyone can benefit from them.

When I saw the topic of this thread I am like Uh Oh!!!!, then I clicked on it and was like nice, made me smile. I thought it was going to be like some Eckhart Toley, Oprahs Book Club type line. Always good to have a reminder from someone whos been through hell, and knows a little something about the PROGRAM OF AA.

I find the book brilliant and most importantly, it explains the Program. As a newcomer to AA, I feel I need to learn the program and for me, the Big Book is the best place to do that. I also like some of the youtube clips of people explaining the big book and how to do the program.

I was starting to run rough in mainstream Aa, when someone I'd never seen at my then home group, visited and talked about the book and taking the steps.
We were one of those ID meeting groups that just scared each other sober every week, with war stories.
The book opened my eyes, gave me a massive surge of hope and in reading on I got connection with God,
Through the third step prayer.
finally I knew what it meant to be relieved of the desire to drink.
It's a miraculous thing and I nearly missed it just sitting in meetings and just not drinking.
