Maybe the coffee tradition was started because it could be used to waken and sober up a drunken newcomer? Don't alcoholics drink coffee because it helps them sober up a little? IDK because I was never that much of a drunk. It helps with hangovers too doesn't it?

I nominate ya for buying the supplies for the coffee.
coffee doesn't sober up anyone. all it does is make a wide awake drunk.
its also possible for people that don't like the coffee to take their own.
if bad coffee is all ya got to complain about, ya got it pretty dam good!

That's all you need for a meeting! I had a friend talking about someone not liking a meeting and said, all I need is a coffee pot and a place to meet... Lol

Your thread gave me a giggle this morning. Yep, I wasn't a coffee drinker at all until I got sober. My HG has real good coffee. Although I would rather have coffee that's too strong at a meeting instead of not strong enough. I've had coffee at meetings that looked like tea. It was gross. LOL

I didn't want to chair meetings for a very long time because I was afraid I'd somehow screw up the coffee and everyone would be mad at me!!!

I wish I had a dime for every cup of coffee that was poured down the drain following an AA meeting. I could take you all on a trip around the world.

hi,
that's a really offensive post to service people who do
buy quality coffee, real milk, premium cookies, etc
i know
because i serviced 7 groups my first 5 years
and that's what i did

Has anyone ever considered making kool aid during the summer months?
yeah, i have
plenty of times
when i was on coffee patrol
i bought a quart of lemonade during the summer
i also bought candy and candy canes for the christmas season
i baked brownies quite a few times
and i even bought a valentine's day heart
hershey's kisses for Valentine's day

Only that nasty powdered imitation crap can be used. It is essential to never wash the percolator as well.

after every meeting, i would wash and clean the coffee pot
you are exaggerating about the mildew and other things

i am kinda pissed off bill w.didn't make the set up
pizza and pepsi
but
i figured out people go for the meeting
the bad coffee set ups, the hot sweltering basement, etc
(which i attended without complaining)
i went because i needed a meeting

you are playing with a trigger for a relapse

best
fraankie

instead of complaining, do the set up service

All I know is that weekly coffee commitment went a long way in getting me and keeping me sober. Got there early, stayed late, and got to know a lot of people

When I was first in the rooms I had the same question. So I brought in some good coffee and made it thinking others would appreciate it, too. Yeah, it didn't work. Each AA group has their own thing. . .tea, coffee, goodies, whatever. . . I just take a huge bottle of water to meetings now that way I'm never disappointed.

More like powerless over people, institutions and principles
which tend to baffle them.

Bwahahaha!!! Truly fulfilled pg125 of being sensitive. Laughing coz don't want to post smthg will regret later. Here's a novel idea since this is a program of suggestions: buy small bags of coffee from Starbucks or dunkin donuts & brew it before the mtg? That will definitely increase turnout

It's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the coffee in the engine room aboard an aircraft carrier. The coffee pot that hasn't been cleaned in yeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaars, quality of distilled water questionable, coffee grounds that come in a square 5 lb tin container (it looks like coffee grounds at least)... and the powdered goo you have to scrape off the wrapper to use for creamer. yUmmy!

quit complaining about the coffee already, coffee at an AA meeting is like the cross at a church, sway it is.

I make coffee at my HG. I also set up the tables & chairs, lay out the literature, snacks, readings, step cards. I fill out the lead sheet and stamp/sign the court papers. I also buy the coffee, cups, dry crappy creamer, sugar and snacks. Our HG is short right now and we need the money for rent and literature/books. I don't mind but I can't afford specialty coffee and half and half. I do buy a flavor creamer now and then and sweet and low is available.

I have only heard one complaint about the coffee which was promptly answered with “you are more then welcome to come early and make it”, I have never heard a complaint again.

I don’t drink the stuff at the meetings. I have one maybe two cups in the morning and that is all. I bring my own drink to the meetings.

HEYYYYY, There is an option. Bring your own! That would solve your problem.
