Spiritual solution
I know I didn't care a hoot about spirituality when I was active. The only prayers made were selfish ones but he was listening.
I read something the other day that really made me think. It said something like "Just because God did not answer your prayers does not mean he said "no", sometimes he is saying "wait".
I think that says a lot. We pray but we still expect instant gratification.
For me it took months of sobriety to get to the point where I could give it away. Where everything was not about me and I had to let go and quit trying to run the show.
I think a dry drunk has a better chance of getting there but from what I have seen the longer they are dry the harder is it because they feel they did it all on their own. Ego takes over and they are all that and a bag of chips. They feel superior to the alcoholic that is active in recovery.

sometimes it is called stark raving sober, sometimes a dry drunk, sometimes bat crap crazy
it all equals miserable for me.I have been there, more than once
Clancy says that is the place where a lot of alcoholics commit suicide
The first requirement is that we be convinced that any life run on self-will can hardly be a success.
are we convinced?
I am

Most people...
I don't remember who said this, like many of the quotes that float around in my head, taken from various books I've read, but in dealing with the delusions. It's quite profound, may be it'll help..
'Most people, see the world as they want it to be....
There are a few, often intelligent, (sober alcoholics are often 'friendly, able and intelligent people - see the book 'Alcoholics Anonymous) people, who see the world as it really is,
And still appreciate all it has to offer, in themselves and others.'
I like to think this was written for both alcoholics, in the first sentence, and recovering, sober alcoholics in the second!

Eightfold Path is Right View, which simply put is seeing reality as it is, not as it appears. I think this and your quote can apply to all people and not only alcoholics.
Thanks and have a great day.

Angst sucks bigtime.
The only thing that I've found when it's prolonged at all is to work with others and be of MAXIMUM service.
Misery may linger, but at least I keep busy until whatever it is is released, accepted, worked out, or just plain becomes unimportant.
