This is a really good one. So many people, including me in the past, have been turned off to God because of the people who claim to be followers.
People are not perfect. Each person has his/her own interpretation of spiritual things, and even in a church (or, especially in a church) there are multiple interpretations of often the same single scripture!
I had a hard time with hypocrisy in the church, and people trying to give me advice. Then I realized they were convinced they were speaking from a good place. I didn't have to internalize their version of scripture.
Same thing in AA. People grab onto certain sayings or beliefs and that becomes their mantra.
Their mantra. Not necessarily mine.
