| How do you start your day?
Hi all For some time now I have tended to get up, ready and out the door to work, and then try to pray while driving to work. I know that I need to change this, and make space to start my day correctly, but we have 3 year old twins, and quiet time is a rarity in our house. Setting my alarm for an earlier time never seems to work, but I'm going to try it again, this time doing morning reading and prayer before anything else So, as the title asks, how do you start your day?? I usually get up and hit the gym most day's before work. While on the treadmill, I do my morning prayers and meditation. I find it's my time, and it's a good way to start my day mentally and physically.

michael if you're sober you are starting your day 'correctly'!! but i know what you mean, carving out a little quiet time has been tough. Now that my son is in prep school, it has been relatively easy to get up a bit earlier. In winter i just sit and read. In summer, i get out in th garden and do the full meditation- took me years to realize that this is the 'other' part of step 11. And it has become unbelieveably important in setting the tone of my serenityfor the day. With twin 3 yr olds, i could imagine the day starting with 'full contact' love and reserving meditation for nap time or late night. Some ol zen guy used to say that mountain top meditation was easy- its boiler room meditation that lets you know you can really do it!! Man do i miss that 3 yr old energy- everything new...greet the world with skint knees and open arms... mackat |

Michael, A six and four year old populate my mornings! First thing I do when I wake up and am still in bed is ask that I may be given the opportunity to practice kindness that day. So if I don't have time for readings and meditation some mornings, I've at least asked for help. |

I must admit, I have GOT to have a cup of coffee before I'm ready to do ANYTHING in the morning. I could pray when I first wake up, but seeing as how I can barely think about what I'm saying that time of day, I just prefer to wait until I have a little brain capacity. Actually, my point is, when I pray, I want to be able to "feel' what I'm praying. I say the 3rd and 7th step prayers for a reason- to make my day better and be able to put myself in a mindset to be of help to others (self-centeredness is one of my big character defects). I don't always pray well and I don't always meditate well, but I think making the effort, taking the action, is helpful and important. :skiptrip: |
