| AA meeting or Bar?
Tonight I going to my first f2f AA meeting. I keep getting really nervous. Now this thought keeps popping into my head. I could pretend to go to the meeting and go to the bar instead. This is not what I want to do, but the thought keeps coming back. Come on guys, tell me how stupid that is. Again trying to replace fear with alcohol. 3 1/2 hrs. until meeting time. I have to get myself there. I know it will be ok. Should have went to a morning meeting, instead of worrying all day about it. LOL Thanks, Missy

breathe and keep breathing. nice deep breaths. go to the meeting. report back and tell all of us how it went. you can do this. you've seen the inside of a bar try something new and adventurous for yourself. who knows what wonderful things can happen for you at the meeting? you will get so much out of it- i promise. love- alice

You know what I'm going to say. Eat a peach and relax. So I won't say it. Don't pass up the opportunity to enjoy a lousy cup of coffee with a bunch of the best people you will ever meet. And as alice says, come back and spill it sister! DD |

Little Missy, I am also very nervous about going to AA. I just don't express myself well face to face. But I know its were I belong. I know that no matter what my feelings, I am still accepted. | |

I DID IT! I knew I could if I could get myself in the building! Everyone was nice. I even got a 24hr. chip! I was so excited. It was me and 9 men! But that was fine, were all just drunks! Thanks for the support. I really appreciate it. Love and Hugs, Missy

hey missy that is excellant, i was going to suggest you think of us all there with you, but you have been already. WOW. isnt it the nicest feeling to walk into such a place. i reckon going to meetings is like my 'time out', my hour or so of peace, i dont have to do or say anything, i can just sit. that is the joy of it for me. and you learn heaps from other people, and the people are welcoming and friendly, even when i have been to other meetings it is the same. so much more welcoming than a bar when people 'check you out etc' at a meeting people genuinely say "hi and welcome" they are interested in you. so congrats again and keep going hugs kath

Missy, your post was very inspiring! Awesome job. When I first started going to meetings, the oldtimers would tell me to get to as many different meetings as I could in the early days. I'm really glad I took that advice because they were all so different! I thought I found I felt comfortable in, then I found an even more comfortable one and so on. They were'nt all great, but they all had their value. Good on you, that fear can be hard to walk through. Amy

Missy, that's awesome! Wasn't so hard was it? Overcoming that initial fear is the toughest part. It took me quite sometime before I felt comfortable just walking into an AA clubhouse and (uhhg!) talking to people about real s***! Welcome! Glad you are here! -Josh

Missy, Great you made the meeting! Always remember that a good AA meeting will sure spoil a "fun" night of drinking. Al...

Missy - Congratulations! That is inspiring and wonderful. You felt the fear and you did it anyway. How cool can that be? Love, Digits

Thank you all for your well wishes! I'm going to my 2nd meeting tonight. I'm actually excited and eager to go. Funny how that works. I don't even care if the same people are there. As long as somebody is. hahaha Today, I feel like being an alcoholic isn't so bad. I love to learn. And boy have I learned a lot lately. I don't mind being the new kid. I realize that I am helping them just as much as they are helping me. I'm not a burden to them. I'm just like them, only new. I loved that one of the guys said, you can lie to a normal person and they will believe you. You lie to a drunk, and they will call you on it every time! Can't wait to hear what they have to say tonight. I hope this helps anyone wanting to attend their first meeting. But I guess I didn't think at the time it would be this great either. Take Care and I'm sure I'll be able to come back tonight with even more words of widom. Missy

hi missy, there are some funny sayings, serious and irreverant. wish i could remember them all but one night i remember one of the guys saying in his early days (like 20 yrs ago) he had been to AA in sydney. at that stage he was a young lad and going to AA was as much about getting his life together as having a life, social life etc. he said and old timer pulled him aside one night and said "son **** and peni dont mix here mate " hahaha (**** being aus for booze haha ) i nearly wet myself laughing. oh anothr good one i heard the other night is if you point one finger at someone you will have three pointing back at you. (hold your hand up and point it is true) anyway, enjoy and keep going hugs kath

Sorry (((Ted))) Well I made it to my second AA meeting, and my husband went to Al-anon. There was actually 2 other women there this time and 11 men. LOL So here's the wisdom I came home with: Drinking is like making love to a skunk, you don't think you've had enough, but you just can't take it anymore! :LMAO When we got home, I had a nice talk with my husbands parents. They are so understanding. What great support. She even said they wouldn't drink anymore. Not so sure the father in-law was happy with that. hahaha I told them they didn't have to change anything because of me. I had to make the right decisions. I guess everyone needs to belong to a group. My sister is in a sorority, and I'm in AA! LOL What a great life! Missy
