| A fellowship moment...
A close friend in my home group stepped of the wagon yesterday and called me this morning. It's our custom up here to hang with a brother when he comes back in. So we decided to go to an early riser meeting on the other side of town we hadn't attended in months. We noticed a big crowd in the parking lot and I remembered a couple of medallions were being handed out. Big Bill, 45 years. Marcellus, 3 months. About a hundred people attending. Came Bill's turn to be presented with his after Marcellus was done speaking. Now Bill is old school, if you know what I mean. Hard edges and all. But a pillar in the fellowship up here. Bill spent his ten minutes reminiscing a bit about the good old days. And just towards the end, he turned to Marcellus still standing there, and with a shaky voice and a tear in his eye said: "Your medallion carries with it the weight of a great responsibility young man. I am honored to have seen you come in and show me why I STILL keep coming back after all these years". You should have been there... DD |

Great post Dan! Holy Cow Man. I just noticed you have 360 posts since the great crash of 2004. I've been enjoying them all. I visit here every day and it's stories like this that keep me happy and motivated. I saw in my Friday meeting some weeks ago something really cool I'd like to share as well. I was secretary then and we had a lady with many years who had been having troubles as lifes' terms had been particularly difficult for her. She had been sharing with us how dark her sobriety had been of late. Well not long after, a new gal who had recognised her from another meeting, shared how the solution seemed so far away and life was hovering as a hopeless chore. After the meeting, from across the room, I observed the two women talking with each other. I smiled as I locked up the cabinets and put away the cups because our old friend had a look of life and joy in her eyes as she spoke to the newcommer who responded with a hope that she probably hadn't had in quite some time. The two of them together and the connection they made that night is truly what made my night as well. I said to a friend outside as we waited for the gals to finish up that this is what AA is really all about. Rudiger |
