Arrow Big Book Quotes

"More than most people, the alcoholic leads a double life. He is very much the actor. To the outer world he presents his stage character. This is the one he likes his fellows to see. He wants to enjoy a certain reputation, but knows in his heart he doesn't deserve it."

Wow, it has been awhile since I've seen these few sentences. This was the feeling I had that someday, "they" were going to figure out I was a fraud. I heard in the rooms many others expressing the same fear. Took awhile to go away, that feeling of "being found out". And I don't mean about my drinking, but that I wasn't really who I said I was.

I still wonder sometimes, at work, if they know what a joke I am. I still can't seem to understand that I actually know what I'm doing most of the time, and not just making it all up as I go along

Remember that awful feeling when one person or group of people with whom you acted one way was in the same place as another person or group with whom you acted another way? Trying to figure out how to act with both there at the same time? Sickening! So much energy spent on that foolishness.

I have been asking myself who am I really lately, the personality that I liked to identify with, kind, generous, easy going, witty isn't really who I am at all quite the opposite.
I thought after one year of sobriety all would be well but more is being revealed and coming to terms with it is a challenge and its people here on SR and in AA seem to be the only ones that understand what is really going on and the importance of finding ones real self.

Some great responses from all. I have been sober almost 9 years and there are still some days that I feel like I still don't know who I really am? Or I wonder if this is just another chameleon act that I am putting on. A lot of times I hear people talk in meetings about trying to become the people God meant for them to be I like that but it takes a lot of praying and introspection to become that. I also believe that by doing the steps we break out of our old self. Have a great day and thanks for all who replied.
