| First Commitment
After 2+ months of fighting everything that my sponsor has told me to do and being completely miserable, I realized on Friday that something has to change. And that something is me. So at my meeting today the chairperson put it out there that they needed a new coffee maker. My sponsor has been after me to get a commitment and to start doing some service. So, I volunteered and I now am the coffee maker. I'm pretty excited. And I love coffee. Match made in heaven.

You rule, Erica! I am the greeter at my home group and I have really enjoyed getting to know everyone and feeling like I'm contributing to the group. As for the misreable, it has gotten much better for me, I will have 5 months on Tuesday. I'm also from Ct, by the way.

Good work! My first commitment was greeter and I took it really serious. I showed up 45 minutes early and stood by the door till the meeting started. I made sure you didn't come in without shaking my hand first. It was really really helpful. I learned everyones name and people got to know me right off the bat. I think I was about a month sober and did it until about 7 months when I became literature chairman.

Thanks guys. I can feel a positive change since Friday night and I know it will only get better if I keep doing the work. For the first time I am really excited to go to meetings and to do the work. jennikate, I'm in New London County and have been hitting up the meetings in Niantic/East Lyme mostly. Good group of people down there.

Hi Erica, Well, actually I know who you are. Didn't want to freak you out or come off as stalker. I saw you in New London on Sunday morning, yes? Sorry, I know that's kinda creepy but I have a really good memory for names and Erica isn't that common. Plus I knew they needed a coffee person so I put two and two together. I think we once had a conversation about lacrosse. I'm sorry to hear you're still feeling bummed out. This time in I have followed everything my sponsor told me and it has made all the difference. Jen, I am totally freaked out now. Such a stalker. Just kidding. And I am pretty sure I know who you are too. I am horrible with names (like really, really bad) but I remember the lax conversation. My daughter who was with me on Sunday is the lax player. And yes on the doing what I'm told. I was supposed to meet with my sponsor tonight but my babysitter canceled. I'm disappointed but that is life. I'll continue to make phone calls and read the big book and whatever else she tells me to do.

We can change, sure enough. Some on our own.....and a lot with/through the grace of God. We do, though, need to be willing participants. Action seems to be about the only way it works though. "Learning" to be different never helped me nearly as much as acting differently. Good for you!!!!!!!

Hi Erica, Yup, I saw her there. She looked thrilled...ha, ha...just kidding. It's a totally kid friendly meeting which is nice. In one way I'm lucky I don't have to deal with the babysitter issue. However, just tolerated some nasty 18 yr old girl behavior so I'm not sure what's better. My sponsor has been away and will be back today. Yeah!!! I am so lucky to have her in my life. Feel free to PM or call me anytime (I'll PM my number if you like). Reaching out to others is hard for me and is one area my sponsor would like me to improve on. jen |
