| 5 months today
Just wanted to share my joy at achieving 5 months sobriety today I know I am just starting out on my sober journey but I have to say these past months have been amazing The changes in my life have been dramatic in some instances and subtle in others Ringing the AA Helpline 5 months ago was a life saving phone call in my opinion. Attending my first AA meeting was the true start on my path to recovery. I walked into a Church Hall, heart pounding, drenched in guilt and shame. A lady came straight over to me, smiled and asked me if this was first meeting. I remember nodding. She hugged me and said that I was welcome. I was told that at that moment I was the most important person in that room. I sat in and listened that day in utter amazement. All those lovely people were telling my tale in their own words and ways. A weight was lifted off my shoulders. I held my head up and met their smiles with tears, tears of sheer relief and joy. I had come home 5 months on and I am working my steps, I have a sponsor, I share in meetings, I make tea and coffee at the meetings but most of all I share the love, the hopes, dreams and disappointments of my AA family My personal and emotional life are stable - more so than in my wildest dreams. I have someone with me all the time to guide and nurture me along the journey - my HP I greet each day with a sparkle and a feeling of wellbeing and contentment - guilt has left my mind and my heart bursts with a desire to live. Of course I have bad days - that is life - but bad days sober are not the nightmares of endless days drunk. AA is my prescription, my road map. I can decide to take the bumpy path or the smooth one. I choose the smooth AA path of sobriety Thank you for listening to my rambles
